Turbo Petrol Vs Turbo Diesel
Lets say you had a 2.0 litre turbo petrol (205bhp sapphire example) and a 2.2 litre turbo diesel. (mondeo st tdci example)
Spend £2000 on both cars witch ends up the quickest.

depends on the car and who's doing the work,
but you'd usualy get more power from the petrol but possibly more torque from the diesel
but as i said it all depends on the car and tuner

Hard question to answer, usually petrol of course.
But what 2 engines do you pit against each other to make it fair??
330d is 50% bigger and more torque, yet same bhp.

you mean the twin turbo diesal stu?
well after watching a st diesal, with a bigger turbo and remap etc. i seen it lose to 1 car lenght with a 911. it was feckin quick. low down torque it nailed everything off the line.

You need to drive a decent modern diesel, better than that gutless thing you've got under your bonnet, and return twice the mpg.

Prime example is in one of Stu's customers cars, Nicks 330D.
Thats had a bit of money threw at it, and its seriously quick for a diesel, not far behind Stu's M5 going to Germany thats for sure.

335i sorry
On a serious note, diesels are good, I'd have a 150bhp diesel over a 150bhp petrol engine any day....but for sheer pleasure you can’t beat a large capacity petrol engine in my opinion.
3 litre diesel or 5 litre petrol v8? No competition, petrol wins every time for me. Diesel wins in one area, fuel consumption; and no I wouldn't want a 5 litre diesel

It doesn't matter which one he drives. Jealousy is Jealousy, no matter what seat you are sat in. On a serious note, I do hate the noise they make on Idol and people I have spoken to when I conisdered one told me modern diesels are not reliable.

ive got the 2.0 turbo diesel Golf GT sport, it easily keeps up with the 1.8 and 2.0 turbo petrols.
well untill 70ish, but then thats all u need anyway.
people i find now days who big up the petrol turbos, their only argument is diesels sound like tractors and "yeh but they only rev to 6k, a petrol will pull away at top speed"
well to be honest most modern diesels ive been in, youd be pushed to tell the difference in noise
and as the the revs thing, as said. you can only do 70mph anyway. as an every day car im afraid u cant really beat a diesel. id say rolling from 30-70mph, ud be hard pushed to find a "everyday" petrol to get there as quick.
A petrol turbo as a 2nd play car tho is a good thing!!

so bk to the question if you spent the same amount of mony on both, ie bigger turbo 4 the diesal etc.
im a petrol fan, but wen i watched that mondeo it was seriously fast. well supprised. wud love to see them 2 bimmers side by side of stus, see were each gains on the other. surely the diesal quicker of tthe mark. intresting either way.

I can tell any modern diesel from a petrol. There are plenty of posh motors around the area of London I go to uni in all with their silky smooth 3.0 turbo diesel engines (Audi A4/A8, BMW 5/7 series, Audi Q7 etc etc). I can always tell a diesel even if stationary or moving because stationary will have the unmistakable diesel clattering noise no matter how refined the engine is and when moving, whoosh of a turbo and slight clatter gives it away it's a turbo diesel. 6 cyl/8 cyl engines found in luxury motors nowadays have a different soundtrack, certainly one where I can distinguish.

With diesels though, don't you get to a dead end in tuning? I mean apart from the remap, turbo change, bigger cooler, what else could you do? Ain't exactly a booming market for plenty of aftermarket diesel tuning parts is there.

Who's saying diesels are better/smoother/more refined etc?
The point is, power to mpg is far better on the diesels.
Most can put up with a little less refinement/power, for a lot more mpg.
You need to weigh up whether it's worth it.
The way diesels have come on, hard to say no a lot of the time.
Unless you drive an st220, the best car in the world. Ever. End of.

Sensible place to leave things often as you'll be breaking lots of things, and getting into great expense.

The E46 330D had 204bhp, but the E90 has a different engine......and its something like 234hp as standard....My E90 has had a remap and is about 270BHP/420LBs......Great everyday car with effortless overtaking and midrange punch yet pretty quiet inside....
Of course for weekend blasts you cannot beat high revving and responsive N/A petrol power

just nobody does in the UK.
mostly as the smallish diesels we have in the UK make it fairly pointless way to spend your cash to be fair.
and because the owners are mostly blinkered idiots and think their car is the fastest thing on earth just as they had a remap and the peak torque number is high and it feels quick to them.
diesels running 7s in the states, road legal diesels in the 10s, and ones running up to 250psi boost.
still would all be much faster if they were fuelled by something good though.

There are people I've seen who go some to tune diesels. Seen a few fabias with quite tasty mods under the bonnet not just your usual remap. UK just doesn't seem to have the market for it though it seems as like I said, not many companies I can think of offer performance tuning parts for diesels.
