Default 80db noise test in MOT?

Somebody on another forumn is going on about it. Something about EU law being added to MOT test. Anybody able to shed more light on this?

Average speaking volume is 80db, so think it's rubbish.
Cars can be failed on non standard exhausts but unless mentally loud are usually ok.

All depends on the MOT tester. Mine just passed with just a turbo elbow and half a cat

But then my mate had a full Miltek exhaust fitted to his E36 M3 and a different MOT tested fail it because it was too loud.
