Hi all, was putting the 3 door away last night , went from 1st gear too reverse . As it went into reverse the gearstick snapped in my hand, how easy are they to change and has anyone got one for sale


Wrong section i know but need one asap as im ment to be going to battlesbridge car show today

 

the gear selector is a 2 part , has the bolts not just come out thats under the gator ? as a had a 2wd saff once that had a vibration on the stick and it was the bolts had worked there way loose so just needed a little tighten think there 13,s

They are easy to change or weld it up if you've got a welder handy, sorry i don't have a spare to sell ya.

Does it have to be off a 3 door or are saff ones the same ??

 

all the same; very unusal for them to snap

they are in 2 parts, held together by 2 13mm bolts (i think) you better hope its snapped above the bolts then, otherwise its gearbox out!

 

Yeas mate its snapped just above the 2 13mm bolts thank god

 

Saff ones are the same. They usually go for £15 upwards. I may have a spare if your stuck

 

speak to Steve @ A1 he has ones made up on the shelf ready to go

i wouldn't weld it because the rubber melts inside of the stick it's wank after that

lucky then!, easiest way to do it is remove the outer gater and them make a small incision in the rubber inner sleave (just enough to get a socket on the bolts). Saves having to take the whole lot apart cos it nevers goes back together properly

Not sure thats correct as I changed mine for a B&M quickshift and that didnt involve taking the gear box out!?

Easily done with gearbox in car, though you will have to take off the support so you can drop the box at back end a bit, then four bolts around edge of metal plate hold selector lever in.
The way to cure vibration on solid ones is to use something like a truck wrist pin welded around the lever shaft, it changes the resosnat frequency above that which the box vibrates at and stops it as the vibes don't contain enough energy to overcome mass of the heavy wrist pin.

no, probably not; but you'd have to drop the arse end of the box, complete arse ache if you ask me, just for a gear lever!

 

Comon fault,2wd sticks breaking,dont see them for £15 any more,more like £50,collect as many as i can for spares
