** UPDATED ** My Lockup.....todays activities!!!! ET VOILA!!!
Decided it was about time I got my arse into gear & got concrete laid in my lockup so that I can erect my 2 poster ramp thats been sat there for over 18 months!! At the moment its been compressed dirt that I've been working on which is VERY dusty, dirty & generally unsuitable!!!
So this weekend was the weekend it all started to happen......
Decided to lay 6" of concrete so had to dig out & level off everywhere..... - where the ramp is going I'm going to dig another 6" down or so & lay a spare RSJ going across to strengthen things - not sure if its really necessary but I'd rather have overkill than the ramp toppling over with a car on it! LOL!
Unfortunately I have a couple of cars that arent in a moveable condition so I'm concreteing round these & will get this area done at a later stage.
Few pics of todays progress anyway...
How my lockup was when I came to it this morning...
Fortunately I had the use of a mini digger courtesy of my landlord...
Digging out & getting the levels...
Also whilst I'm digging out & concreting I'm going to build a false ceiling for more storage space...so I'm dropping in some 6x3s as uprights which will get concreted firmly in place.
12ft posts - dropping them 2ft into the floor..
More after tomorrow - concretes hopefully coming in Monday after I've worked out how much I need!!!

Chop - why would rent go up? I've paid for all these mods myself - concrete, ramp etc
Ginge - Its not an old air shelter.....its called a barn. LOL! I've got roughly 1/3 of it (upto the black tarp hanging up). I can fit 5 cars in there plus my work bench area. Its about 38ft x 24ft in area - I pay Ł35 per week - all electricity included & hes got 3 phase in there ready for my ramp!

Well todays update......its now all ready for the concrete to be delivered tomorrow after I've ordered it..
Finished digging it out, and put the viscuine down...
I'll let the pics do the talking...
I was on my own this morning so used the digger to hold the upright in place whilst I filled around it etc...
All dug out & made a deeper section & dropped the RSJ in place to size it up...
Ready for concrete tomorrow...
I'm planning on making a template out of plywood tomorrow where the bolt holes need to go for the 2 poster ramp & am using it to sink some stud iron in the right place so I can just lower the ramp onto it & tighten it up once the concrete has set.
....and now for the question....can anyone guess how much concrete I'm going to need in cubic metres?? Its 6" deep all over except for the RSJ trough which is an extra 8" down.
Updates tomorrow!!!

So hoping they'll be able to pour straight in & we can rake it out then level it off.
Louie - split in 3 boxed areas...7ft x 12ft, 13ft x 23ft, 8ft x 8ft

Update time.....well we finally have concrete.....and a fuck load of it too!!! I estimated I needed around 7.5 cubes.....I was getting quotes of Ł850!!! But after I rang around a bit this morning I finally got a cash deal of Ł675 which wasnt too bad.....well until the guy said to me part way through the pour....thats 7.5 cubes mate....dya want me to keep going or shall I stop there? Well it had to be done so he carried on.....right upto 8.75 cubes to be precise......Ł790 later & I had enough concrete to sink a battleship! LOL! Perhaps I dug out a little more than 6" in places then eh!!! DOH! I'd never be anygood in the construction industry - I'd loose money I reckon!!
Few pics of the concrete laying in process......and may I just say...what a BASTARD of a job laying concrete is!!!
Truck arrives......and fuck me the size of the bugger - only just fitted through the barn door at the front.....width wise AND height wise!!!
So he starts churning the concrete out......
Doesnt half make a mess doesnt it....my poor car...
Fortunately I had a mate who was willing to lend a hand..
We got to a stage where we where trying to avoid falling in the middle of it - we both nearly went head first into it a couple of times - so we lay a few planks across to walk on..
Then it just became tooooo tricky to try and balance on them so I took the plunge....literally....
Least now there was only one of us trying to balance on the edge of the planks - my mate was wearing trainers so chickened out!!
So we then got on with levelling it out...
...and finally came out with the finished flatish slab....
Going to leave it till the weekend to go off properly....then I'll be able to start mounting this jigsaw puzzle...
Needless to say my back is now done in & I never want to see any more concrete for the near future!!! LOL! But least it will be worth it!!

good job your mate did chicken out Lee, he would have been burnt to fuck!
at the price and at the amount.
should of just gone deep where the ramp will be,then compacted the rest flat, would not of had too much soil to move aswell, ive and learn mate.
looking good though Lee.

Dave...live & learn indeed!!!! Its definately an experience I wouldnt be too keen on repeating though! LOL! I remember some else telling me about being careful as the concrete can burn....its dried out my hands good & proper too!!!
Greg - no its not easy....far from it!!! I know in an ideal world I should of got everything out but it was impossible to move those cars out plus there was nowhere to put them as I needed space down the middle of the barn for the lorry to come down. Never mind.
Maria....cheers - cant wait to get a car on the ramp - even if its just to make it go up & down for the hell of it! LOL!
