e46 m3 0r evo 9 fq 360

FQ for me.
Last night I saw a couple of little gangster wannabes ripping the crap out of an e46 M3 in front of a pub full of people (parked outside, bouncing off limiter etc) and they were probably a few years at most older than me (I'm 19) so early 20s. Also another guy in a convertible 318Ci doing the same thing. Not the greatest image in the world.
Plus added factor of ripping any M3 to pieces with the Evo.

id have the evo. the m3 is fast but doesnt feel as exciting as the evo. saying that though my bmw touring on 282bhp kept right up the arse of an e46 m3 from a standing start to 120 . i couldnt get near my mates evo 8 from a standing start until we got to higher end speeds

I'd go with an Evo personally. M3's are amazing but unless I seriously had the money to burn I'd just never own one...

The M3 is heavier I would've thought than the Evo and 20 odd HP down too. Evo has sub 5 second 0-60 and last time I saw a published 0-60 for an M3 it wasn't sub 5 seconds iirc.
And yes, said M3 being a spastic was dark blue and in Southgate

Plus the m3 is a fast car once u engage 4th gear. I lined mine up with a mates evo 8 mr340 which was boosted by that stage (iirc). Once u get into 4th gear the Evo was not leaving behind the M3 at all.
Both fantastic cars. Point to point country road wise, the evo wins by MILES. On a track like the n.ring the M3 can be just as quick if not quicker.
Horses for courses.

what about a m3 turbo supercharged v a evo turbo supercharged.... even kill then
Lets be fair, a M3 will go forever, is realy comfy, has all the toys you would want, leather seats, plenty of boot room, and leg room. will go straight on a track and will hold its value very well, and its also a very easy everyday car that anyone other than a young lad wont look silly in.
Evos are a great car, but so is the M3. If you wanted to tune the car up for more power, then get the evo, if you want reliability, fun, comfort and something that holds its value, then get a M3.
Also you need to look into how often will you be on track with them? the Evo would prob be better to a normal driver, but give the M3 to someone who knows how to handle it, and it will set just as good a time
My opinion obviously

Actually an Evo should be on every ones list of cars to drive, i never looked at them twice until i had a ride in one and was shocked how rapid & brilliant the braking, turning, and general handling was, this was from being in a Cossy 10 years. I've never been in an M3 but i'm sure there great drives too, get the Evo over the winter and maybe upgrade to M3 for summer. If your into forums & meets etc the Evo is the one as it it's one big family, im not so sure about BMW for the social side of things.

I've only ever been in a Evo 6 and all performance cars I've had the pleasure of been taking out in have all been turbocharged. Absolutely amazing feeling and can't see how you could ever go to a non turbo car after experiencing a turbo. The Evo was such a mint drive and I couldn't really fault it.
Also, M3 being RWD I would imagine when hiking power to what people above have said with turbos and stuff not being able to launch anywhere near as good as an Evo would.

totally diferent cars really,m3 is a comfy bus that happens to go allright and corner well. evo is a rally rocket for the road. for the record i can level peg with an evo6 tme from 30-100 and then gain some ground on one after that, and thats in an e36 m3 evo. so another 20-30hp in an e46 m3 verses another 60hp and some more weight in an evo9,probably not much in it.
i think you have to live with an m3 for a while to get the best from it,a quick test drive will do nothing for you, where as a test drive in an evo will probably have you buying it on the spot.

I have this dillema at the min :-( thinking of getting rid of the M3 for a 8 or 9! really dont know if I should do it though? The reason I am torn is that the M3 is such a classy lookin car with so many toys and such comfort but goes really well too.. just love the looks of a white 9!!! oh decisions, decisions..

turbo cars are great if.................... you got them on boost full time.
When you dont have that boost, your as quick as a normal 2.0 car which is not much these days.
i have a e36 m3 and a escort cosworth, both running around the same power and the M3 eats it on everything.
345 bhp and 360 bhp is not going to lose that much traction of the line if you get a good start. I find you have to really boot a turbo of the line (5000rpm and side step the clutch) to get the best from it, with the M3, you just pull away normaly and floor it.
Everyone moans about the bog turbo cosworths being laggy as fook, well now the evos are coming into cosworth power and having to use bigger turbos, so will suffer from the same lag.
M3 has all the power all of the time, the grunt from down low is very very nice.
I must admit, never driven a E46, but they will pull away from my M3 with relativly ease.
Never had a evo go pasted me in the M3 yet.
Honestly all, there is a reason why M3's are rated as high as they are, great all round cars that will soak up 100,000 miles all day long. I dont think a Evo at 360bhp will go much passed 100,000 with out a really big bill or a engine rebuild.

Just the pure and grunt of a V6 please that will shutup when you want it too

the m3 might not be far behind power wise but as its a smoother n/a engine it doesnt give that same sense of thrill or excitment as when the boost kicks in on the evo.
my mates evo wasnt much more powerful than my stage 1 cossie bmw and although mine is geared for quite harsh acceleration the difference in the evo with its 4wd was more than i expected.
as an everyday ride though the evo was just to harsh and loud.the bmw will be a quiet tame beast until prodded into life.
