As long as you don't use too much Nawz and blow the welds on the intake you'll be fine. Get a laptop connected, it'll tell you when there's a danger to manifold

If you are experiencing high intake temps on the road then your Intercooler is not big enough.

My intake is as close to the front as possible drawing in air right at the front of the lower grille.

Aquamist is good apparently.

anything over 40deg C is worth spending money improving on IMO.

pretty rare on any car that you just cant fit a cooler big enough to do the job, even on cossies, you can fit bigger, especially thicker, than a RS500 one even.

At least someone asked, how hot is too hot.
Most coolers I have seen allowed side spill of the air, because they were not boxed in, which is cheap and simple and effective.
My act's went up to 26C(average) after three hours on the rollers, with a RS500 cooler, until it was then idling and you saw it soak up rad heat, but dropped as soon as underway again.
There are other ways to keep act's low ie vented bonnet, so heat escapes better, use less boost ie bigger turbo running less boost for same power, heat wrap on exhaust etc etc.

So whats an easy way of measuring intake temps then? might sound daft but i'm running an old aftermarket ecu which measures intake temp but doesn't have the facility to log/download it Is there a sensor/guage i could fit to see what i'm getting? Also doesn't fitting a larger intercooler increase lag or is it not a noticeable problem?

simple intake temp sensor that works- http://www.randbmotorsport.co.uk/sho...p?ProductID=46

and no, in my experience, even when adding ridiculous amounts of extra volume to the intake tract with big ICs etc, it doesnt make a noticable difference

As said very very marginal effect on lag, but of course it does have one not worth worrying about when fitting a larger ic though.
It is dead easy to measure the ic temps using the oe sensor so long as you calibrate it,
usefully the CTS has exactly the same resistance scale as the AT sensor, so just need a much finer scale one, that works around the bottom end between about 6 K Ohms and 2.42 K Ohms which covers 10C-30C, just as a example.
But if not that bothered about it would be much easier fitting as suggested the R&B one, which are very good.
