Engine only comes out for The cam-belt change, which is every 3 years
other 2 years just normal stuff oil filter etc.

I say go for it mate,

Im sorta in the building industry too, Im also 34 and if I hadnt of spent the money I have on cars so far (around 350k) my life would have been pretty mundane as the house and "life" stuff always just seems to be the same. If I won 100k tomorrow, the day after I'd be lucky if I had half of it left !! But then I could also understand people telling you not to listen to me as I could be described as a numpty !!

You already own a home outright, so you have done the sensible thing anyway.

Buy one mate, go for it, then in a couple of years, you'll get most of your money back on it anyway, so probably only cost you 10-15K in real terms to own one for a couple of years, thats the depreciation you would see on a high end mondeo in the same time period.

And get lots of photos of it, so you can show your grankids the really cool ferrari you used to own

get a nice house and buy some memories

what about something like this? http://pistonheads.com/sales/672963.htm

personally 50k seems a lot of money to spend on a car, but as has been said it's a once in a lifetime thing! Depending on how much in total you've inherited i'd probably spend a chunk of that on a car ( that hopefully wouldn't depreciate much! ) and then invest the rest, even with the market as it is I would say there's some bargains to be had and some big money to be made

Tha 3.5k will inc cambelt, what happens is people worry so while the engine is out they get extra stuff done, re-furbished headers , water pump etc
New hoses valve clerances checked etc the list can go on.

On my 348 engine was out last year so oil plugs all the usual plus all belts came to £1900 inc labour..

If u want cheaper servicing then yes get the 360 as the cam-belt is done with the engine in, they have access panels behind the seats the engine on a 360 does not need to come out for a service..

TBH any f355 that you would buy would of EITHER had the belts done (to aid selling the car) or if they have not been done and they are due then u can basically knock a nice chunk off the asking price..

In any event either car would need to have a ppi done so before you drove it home you would know exactly what would need doing..

If it was my money 360 for me i suppose but plenty of f355 owners have chosen the 355 as the car they want, with Ferraris its not always about getting the newest model you can afford

is it me or is £50k to much for a 355, one of my mates just bought a red one, aftermarket exhaust and a remap on it, needed a new clutch and a couple of scratches for £25k from the autotrader

overall its a lovely car and jesus if u spent another 25k on it then it would blow your mind

It all seems just a bit cliche'd to come into some money and then buy a Ferrari.

Its like Pools winners in the 70's always bought Rollers.

There are a lot better cars out there to buy for £50k

I think I'd get a bank statement to prove I had the money then lord it up round loads of dealers and blag as many test drives as you can.

Then make a decision

Most Ferrari's you see are low mileage because people dont drive them hard and enjoy them every day, obviously there are exceptions, but on the whole they are usually low mileage and loads come up for sale just before there is a big service due.

Having the money to buy one is one thing but having the money to keep one insured, in petrol & regularly maintained is another matter.

true.tbh if i had the money(reasonable money that is cos silly money would be getting me an f40)i would buy a 550 maranello but for some reason i have always wanted a 308 even though they are old, slow and unreliable

obviously it was more than 50K and its not really th sort of question you ask someone mate
now what I would do is look long and hard at what the best deals are,if you buy a car you have the upper hand as your a cash buyer, but if you want one go for it,you only live once BUT I would also be looking at investing the rest so the return you get will offset what you loose on the car over a the next couple of years
invest in the leting market thats is huigh with rentals costs at a high you cant loose, also I would get income support people in as there situation never changes and the rent is alwasy there, you just have to vet who you rent too
good luvk maye and look after your money as it wont come so easy again

if i had that kind of money kicking around, i cant deny that i wouldn't want to spend it on a car, but i think comon sense would prevail and would put it into property, something for when i am older

the way i see it is you go to work to earn money to spend it on making your life enjoyable, if a ferrari is going to make your life enjoyable then go for it. If your spending say 40k on 1 its not 40k down the drain as it will always be worth something probably 30k plus. What i'm saying is you might aswell have 40k worth of enjoyment than 40k in the bank doing nothing.

buy a 360 or a 355, its personal choice, if u buy the rigt car u wont lose much on it at re sale time. My maye had a nice 348 and had it for 2 years then sold it for what he paid for it. get one thats just had a service then you dont have it looming for a good while.

Good luck, awesome cars!

If you already own your house, and don't feel the need for a bigger one. And don't want to be a property millionaire then buy a ferrari!!!

Then get plenty of pics for us mortals to look at. As Chip said, when you sell it you won't lose THAT much money, but the memories will last till dementia sets in! Hopefully a long time for you

I'm with a lot of people here, if you can justify the £50k then do it mate! As said with things going how they are last thing i'd want is to look back and seriously regret not having done it.

I wouldnt' personally get a 50k 355 but understand lol, that sound . DB9, 360, Continental GT or top spec 996 turbo would be on my list...

Or this

there was an ad at the bottom of the page where they were quoting £3k for a month's hire of a 355 and a grand for a weekend

which is where the idea came from

besides, i'd spend it on a new skyline, probably just as quick and probably 100 times more reliable
