Not too interesting but we found it funny, my grandad was in WW2 on the HMS Illustrious and in his early days he was in charge of a large team of guys who had to make the ship look respeactable and if your quarter was not up to standard you had to do 5 laps of the carrier deck and this meant everyone, so one time when ordering his guys about he found that the Captain of the ship had left his room a tip, so my Grandad ordered HIM to run around the deck, which he HAD to do, the whole crew stopped working just to watch him do the laps GO GRANDAD

3 bits of decent history on my side..........

1) Dick Turpin married a member of my family,

2) My Grandad played with Sir Stanley Matthews for the RAF football team.

3) And my uncle was a big bod at Ford Dagenham during the 70's and 80's help to design and evolve many cars, the one he always mentions is, the plastic flap that you read the Vin number in the carpet was his idea.

i'm sure everyone knows who genghis khan was, that mad fella who beats up the sporting goods store in bill and ted's excellent adventure

but when he was about doing his thing in the mongolia lands he started to push up through into southern europe before he popped his clogs

at one point, he was ruler of most of central and southern europe so he had quote a bit of clout

ok, so then he passed away and his empire started to deminish, and, as it started to draw back towards mongolia, the aryans from germany/vikings/norse mythology with their blue eyes and blonde hairs migrated along with the retreat, doing their normal raping and pilaging and stuff as they went along

eventually, cetrain groups of them settled in the northen parts of indoa, where punjab now lies, as it was fertile land, good for growing crops and stuff

they intermingled with the indegionous population and that's why a fair amount of indians from the northern stretches are light skinned as opposed to the rest of the indian subcontinent has fairly dark skin

so now you know

and seeing as part of our bloodline is aryan (light skinned) and part royal (can't rememebr which prince it was but he was cast out, therefore not being allowed to be royal anymore as the fruits of his loins were being scattered to the local washerwomen ) there is an intresting mix there

so, not as exciting as a james bond film, but more factual

My uncle was friends with Englebert Humperdink whilst in the Army.

My aunt used to date Billy Fury.

My great great great grandfather, Senior Sergeant Thomas Wallings was killed whilst on duty in 1878. He was out giving chase on horseback, to apprehend the notorious bushranger Alexander 'Midnight' Law.
(Well, i'd never heard of him before, but apparently quite significant back then!)

My dad seems to think he has a millionaire great uncle somewhere in London too, but then my dad is full of old stories!

my other half granddad looked into there family history, turns out there related to anne boleyn and her family used to own hever castle!if only they kept it
  • 1459 - Sir Geoffrey Bullen of Norfolk, Lord Mayor of London in 1459, was the first of the Bullen ( Boleyn ) family to own Hever Castle
    • Sir Geoffrey Bullen had made a good marriage to Anne, heiress of Lord Hoo and Hastings, and - through her - acquired Hever Castle in Kent and Blickling Hall in Norfolk
    • Used as a hunting lodge at this point in history
  • Sir Geoffrey Boleyn transformed and rebuilt the castle into a comfortable family residence
  • The estate was later inherited by his son William
  • 1505 William Bullen bequeathed Hever Castle to one of his sons, Thomas Bullen - the father of Anne
  • 1498 Thomas Bullen married the daughter of the Duke of Norfolk, Elizabeth Howard
  • They had three children:
    • Mary Bullen
    • George Bullen
    • Anne Bullen
  • Henry visits Hever Castle during his courtship of Anne Boleyn
  • During this period the Bullen family changed the family name to Boleyn
  • 1533 - Henry VIII marries Anne Boleyn

My grand-dad was in the czech army as a colonel during WW2 and, when war ended, and communist started to gain power in eastern europe, he had to leave his home, and all his medals, his human status were taken back because he never wanted to join the reds. All what he archived was destroyed, it is like he did nothing. His life ended in a rather poor way by building the Praha's metro and died at less than 50, just because he wanted freedom rather than communism. He archived quite much in the army, never met him of course because I was born after his death, but he lives through my father, as his memories.

Other than that, my mum's uncle used to be the mechanic of lot of famous celebrities, including the queen of Danemark.

Although it'll probably be very easy seeing as brothers married sisters and Grandads fathered brothers etc.

My uncles dad who was 104 this month helped to invent the 3D glasses. And that was one of the questions at the quiz night at his care home, he was obviously proud to answer that one correctly, he was a top scientist and still has his marbles and only moved out of his house a few months ago.

My great grandfather was in the scots guards and my grandad had his leg almost blown of in the war when a bomb hit their house (god bless him) countless times I had to look at his wound oO.

Thats that...

You know how the term "family tree" comes from when you draw it out, it spreads out with branches going off to all different families?

I just drew yours and it looked more like bamboo shoot

My Fathers side is very interesting, I really should research it more - his mother was a Stirling. The Stirling's of Keir who were essentialy Scottish Nobles and whos ancestral routes can be traced back centuries have had a big influence in Scotland and throughout the world in both Scientific fields and in the Military.
Colonel David Stirling being the founder of the SAS.

Dads cousin takes great pride in telling of his ancestral routes and is apparently a direct descendant of Sir Isaac Newton.
I can quite believe it too as he is a mad scientist type whos work takes him all over the world & involves the researches of strange natural phenomenon like spontaneous human/animal combustion and I know he was involved with cutting edge DNA work a number of years back. He's a little strange(it must be all the brains he's carrying about) so I dont see much of him, maybe I'll make a point of doing so and find out more.

Interesting thread btw!
