Personally, I think it is disgusting how people can openly joke and laugh about doing it. What with the current topic in the muppet room, really makes you think about other people's views....

There is a victim of rape in my close family. I have had first hand experience of seeing how it destroys a life, its almost bringing me to tears now thinking about what this person has been put through, and how the person involved and us as a family have had to deal with it. I just really cannot comprehend how it can be joked about, makes me so angry.

I do have lots to say on the subject, but as I am having a few minutes sit down at work I dont want to go into it any more.

Im of the opinion that if you ban jokes about one emotive subject you have to ban them about all emotive subjects, or you accept that people just have to self sensor if they are the over sensitive type, and give them the chance to do so by clearly labelling something as potentially offensive.

congrates on the baby ------ when someone has just had a misscarage.
congrates on the wedding ---- when someone just come home and found there wife/husband in bed with another man.
how many ppl earn Ł1k a week --- when someone just went bankrupt is losing there house and has 2 kids and a wife to look after.

I'm laid back bout most things, will laugh & joke bout anything, I've got a personal hatred about rape & anything that hurts women or children to the point of it boilin my blood or bringin me to tears !!

Jokes in the right scenaro can be funny if kept general or vauge.

The post in which Rich was refering to was towards SOMEONE (on this board), ment in jest I know & no harm was intended but once you single someone out & make it personal like that in my opinion you cross the line !!

The punishment for Rape'ists & Phedo's etc is far far to lenient & I honestly think if found guilty they should let the family of the victims do what they wish no holded barred !! I would slit their f**kin throte's !!

fpmsl, I was going to write a sensible reply but that just cracked me up.

Everyone goes through shit mate, everyone has a tough time, the whole point is a joke is designed to make you smile. Ok not everyone will find everything funny, but most will, and thats all the matters.

I agree ya cannot please everyone all the time, and life is too short to get upset at jokes.
Im sure no one does it to realy upset anyone, and the muppet room does come with a warning.

We all have things in our lives that upset us.

I personnaly find that if you can joke about certain subjects it helps to get over them and move on.

I am afraid jokes are there for a reason and all comers are game- Pricess Diana, 911 victims, Black, Asian, Chinease, Welsh (but thats fair) Disabled people, Animals, Women, Dogs, The Blind, Terrorists, Muslims, Christians, Marines, RAF,...... etc etc etc.

In someway everything above if said to the wrong person and at the wrong time will offend.

Making jokes is a normal human way of dealing with terrible things. Its why we laugh at folk who fall over and make crisp jokes about 911.
If we had to sit and think about such things we'd never lift ourselves out of misery.

with rape nowadays its all to common for a woman just to shout "rape" and ruin a mans life just because she was drunk she didnt know what she was doing,them sort of people sadly make rape look like a joke and and to easy to say it, I feel sorry for the woman who have it done to them seriously, but also for the men who get acused of it and have to live there lives with it knowing there innocent.

 

Unfortunately my ex got raped 8 years ago, and I fucking hate the cunt that done it. I only joke about it now and tbh I don't know why I do, but theres a time and place for it. Not everyone knows everyones problems and not everyone knows mine when it happened i'd not long joined the RAF and there was jokes going about all the time with rape and alsorts which is probably why I have the warped sense of humor I have, So timing can be bad but it happens sadly. I cried and was fucking angry when it happened and still to this day I would love to get my hands on the prick that done it, even though when it happened we wasn't together, I still had feelings as we broke up due to her having an abortion, so things went from shit, to a hole opening up, and a big one at that.


Hope the person involved Rich is ok, and gets better, I know first hand what its like

 

theres lots of different subjects that destroy lives that are joked about . rape isnt any different to any of the rest of them. like all contraversial subjects some will be offended and some will laugh.

serious mate it was on telly about 4 days ago joking about the kids in the leukemia ward in a hospital been bald and other cancer related shit. I actually thought he was real funny till I watched that, saying that its a sore subject with me as I am sure it is with many others.

its only funny when you have never had it done to you or someone close but if it has its not gonna be nice. Someone very close to me has been raped and its not nice. People mean no harm by jokes as they are all going to insult some in a racist, sexist, etc but we can all tell whats light hearted or not. Jokes are made to make us laugh aslong as they are not personal.
