Default Difference between a kart suit and a Race suit?

Whats the actual difference? And would a kart suit do for an occasional track day car? Been up at Europa this morning as had nothing doing and its not far from me...and was having a look at the suits they had in, hence the question

Kart suits arent flame retardent. Race ones generally are.

Same goes for Kart gloves or boots.

You sure ?

I thought all MSA approved race suits (Kart, Rally etc etc) had to be fire retardent !

My local dry cleaners were well on the ball when I had my suit cleaned as they had to send suit away for re-application of a fire retardent coating and even issued a certificate to prove coating had been added - all for Ł13 bargain

Back to topic of track day use of a suit etc

Wearing a kart or any race suit is a much better option than wearing a shell suit or tracky bottoms and a quickly melting nylon top that sticks to skin in the event of a fire

Dave.

This is how I understand it.

Sparco top of the range Kart suit

CIK-FIA Level 2 suits (Karting) are only tested to 100 degrees. But are mainly tested for abrasion resistance. i.e if the kart turns over, or the driver falls out (rare of course)

Sparco FIA approved Race suit

These are tested by actually putting a flame on to the suit. Then measuring the effects afterwards.

FIA document see 7.1 onwards (If you're that bothered )

I would question 2 other things you;ve mentioned. Whether anyone can apply enough "flame retardent coating" to a race suit for Ł13!!! And secondly I think that a Kart suit whilst better than t shirt and shorts may actually be worse for you if it did catch fire as it would probably be very difficult to remove quickly and MAY melt anyway. Taking your skin with it!

Because you fucking wanker, I didnt realise it was a Kart suit whilst I was there as it didnt state on the label......had I'd of known it was a kart suit I would have asked whilst the owners of the shop closed it's front doors for an hour just to show us around the new challenger that they had just imported over and had sat in the back workshop.....which at the time we asked plenty of questions.
It wasnt until I got home and looked thru their brochure that I realised that an FIA level 2 suit was a Kart suit.....fucking twat.

Cheers to the other replies though I think it would do the job tbh, as said by 200custom it's better than a shell suit (ay ay calm down calm down like arr barry ).....just didnt wanna buy it and have people pointing in the pits going 'he's wearing a kart suit'
