Default ST170?

Hi guys, have seen these kicking around for about £5k fully loaded with around 30k miles for a 53-54 plate. Cant think of much else for the same cash and low mileage.......Octavia VRS?

What do we think.......I already know they're thirsty so dont tell me that again.

I need a 5 door but something with a little bit of fun would be nice but needs to be 53-54 plate and 30k miles

My Dad has one, 54 plate I think done about 30 by now, fully loaded with everything. Had a few small issues, just the common ones I think, can't remember which site but there is a list of common problems worth looking out for.
Apart from that it goes well, is comfortable and looks nice.

i have driven a couple, and although with the optional xenons and electric leather recaros' they can be a nice place to sit. they just arent very exciting to drive, they lack torque and arent a patch on similar cars of the same era, civic type-r, lean 20vt etc.

cheap though, and alot of car for the money, just dont expect electrifying performance.

not a patch on the RS anyway, even if they did have more toys

What issue did you have with it?

The only issue I had was the few common faults across Focus (apart from the IMRC box), mine is running sweet. 52 reg and is almost 96,000 miles.

I've had mine about 4 months now, its done 45k and within that time the faults are

Knackered lambda sensor
Both gearbox driveshaft seals leaking oil
Thermostat housing leaking
Brake pipe union leaking, leaking brake fluid onto subframe and removing paint off it
Inlet manifold actuator arm snapped
IMRC control box broken
1 Headlamp washer constantly leaks down front of bumper
Other washer rubs on bumper and does not retract unless you push it

I am sure there have been a couple of other things, but they slip my mind at the moment

Sounds like you had bad luck with it!

I only had the following issue in the past 2 years and 8 months of ownership:

* Dead IMRC box
* Lambda sensor burnt out
* Boot Alarm sensor died
* Master & Slave clutch cylinders

The rest was normal wear & tear (i.e. brakes, tyres)

Got a 52 reg 60k example, been fine apart from knackered lambda and usual heatshield rattle.......goes well if you keep it up in the rev range but lacks torque!

Mate of mine has one on a 52 plate and he's a tight git that drives like a complete plonker. The only issue he's had with his in the 3 years he's had it is the control box for the variable inlet thingy stripped it's teeth. iirc it was a bout £200 to change.

Realy good little car, not that quick and needs to be reved but they are well spec'd and are a nice place to sit.
