People dont get hung up on boost levels, My own Escort made 402hp on 24psi but remember I did run 37psi in the mid range and the turbo was flat out and could not make any more boost at the top as the engine was consuming all the air the turbo could supply,
A stock engine wont make the same hp as the airflow is completly diff.

My blades on my T34 turbos used to remove themselves when running 37psi peaks - perhaps they were trying to emulate the Nissan turbos .

As has been said up to about 380 hp is poss. Mine was livemapped to run a 32psi spike and 24 at the limiter which was etimated at over 360 hp by the mapper, but the turbo has shat itself within 2k miles. It is a lottery how long it'll last at 2bar of boost.

The cutback limits turbine speed but improves gasflow so at the higher rev range it will improve power. The trade in is turbine response at low gas speeds.

A T34 can make 370bhp at 1.6bar no problem. What you have to remember is your all looking at BOOST, and boost doesnt make horsepower, airflow does. People on this forum really must stop concentrating on boost pressure and start thinking about airflow.

A standard YB normally drops to around this sort of boost figure from 5500rpm upwards as its consuming more air than the T34 turbo can produce, and it can make the sort of power figures suggested with that air pressure on a good engine and map.

Dont forget, owners only EVER quote peak boost figures, which leads Joe Public to think that figure gives the power, it doesnt, it invariably produces only the peak torque figure. You will find teh boost has almost always dropped considerably by the time your at peak power making engines speeds

Food for thought:
I am sure you all understand that a GT40 would manage 370bhp at 1.6bar no problem, in fact, you woudl struggle to limit it so low. Give that some thought and if it doesnt help you to understand the airflow/boost isue, ive written an article that may help more, accessible via my siggy.

Stu,
If you had a std comp engine , running Blacks, 500 cooler etc, what turbo would you say is best for 380 bhp in both lag, drivability and power?

UT T38.63
or
T34 .63 with 360 deg bearing

Honesty please!

The UT would have an easier time and last longer.
The T34 would give better low end responce, but potentially be more unreliable as it would run higher turbine speeds on boost.

Depends what you want it really does.

Take a look, it says on it. Loo for an A/R Number near the flange/scroll intersection.

answered this many times, mine runs T34.48 mapped by mark runs a proven 391hp 430lbft... so saying they cant handle good power is rubbish, its stil as good the day it was fitted....

Trade in on response, that might explain it. I've driven the car a couple a trackdays, It's far from spiky, As revs go up the the turbo gradually boosts up to 1,8bar and stays there without boostspike. And it keeps pulling well into the 6K, (haven't dared flooring it to rev limiter )
(much different than a t3 on a saph, wich suddenly pulls strong but higher in revs it stops pulling)
Powerwise, as far as i know the engine has standardish spec internals but with this turbo, greys, airfilter/exhaust.
Would you say this turbo is a bit ott, or oke for track use?

regards, Rinus

great for track use as thats the sort of use that requires a turbo to be most reliable as its life is much harder than that of a road cars.

wow... you couldn't be MORE wrong if you tried!!!!

Think YOU should understand what that graph actually means!!!

NOTHING!!!

Dynos and rolling roads can be manipulated to read anything!!!!!

Top tuners advice?!??! thats not what I would call the dude who posted that graph!!!

he is just some bloke that posted a graph!!! that graph came from some company HE PAID!!! THEY HAVE TOLD HIM WHAT HE WANTS TO HEAR!!!! jesus...

The Sunday Sport has said Elvis lives on the moon. They put it on the front page... do you believe that as well?

a T34.48 can't make that power in my opinion. I would like to hear from a 'Top Tuner' or a proper expert to tell me different!!!!

then I would listen!!!

YOU WERE PROMPTLY AND POLITELY GIVEN THE CORRECT INFORMATION YOU REQUIRED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE THREAD.

My 3dr has a t.34 with a 48 housing running closed loop and mapped by Stu at MSD and when recently rolling roaded it recorded 374 bhp and 348lbs/ft peaking at 32psi and holding 28psi and its been on the car 3 years and done at least 15000 miles.
