What version of McAfee?
If its Ver 8 then it has a built in firewall/internet security features.
Probably one of those settings bollocking things up.

of McAfee Anti-virus?
I'm running 7.1 at home and 8 at work.
Where are you trying to get the email from? What ISP?
Are you running any firewall software that could be affected by the McAfee installation?

Windows XP & ME yes.
Programs - Accesories - System restore.
May work may not depends how it feels.
The emails would probably be bounced back to the sender with error some where along the lines of
Mail box no longer exists.

As said above, some ISP's will reallocate the email address if you do not sign into the account for 90 days - some are 60 days....depends on the ISP
Sounds like this is what has happened
Edit to say I meant dial into the ISP using their software or dialup number - not retrieve POP3 email

Check your mail-account settings (Tools -> Accounts, click on mail-account -> Properties -> Servers tab). Some of the older versions of anti-virus software used to change valid email-settings to something resembling the following:
Working settings:
Incoming (POP3) Server: mail.something.com
Outgoing (SMTP) Server: smtp.something.com
Account Name: my_username
After installing anti-virus:
Incoming (POP3) Server: 127.0.0.1 (loopback address, ie. your own computer)
Outgoing (SMTP) Server: 127.0.0.1
Account Name: mail.something.com/my_username
-------------------------
Check your account settings resemble the top set of details, and not the bottom ones......the bottom set would prompt you for your password repeatedly, the top ones wouldn't (assuming you're using the right username & password).

I had a similar problem on my dad's PC. I did a lot of research and went to several IT forums but to no avail. He has a password prompt for each account in outlook everytime it sends a recieves. It got so bad I took it off auto send/recieve. That was only after I installed Mail Washer as well. That is on XP.
Probably not much help but there seem to be a lot of people with the same problem from what I have found.
