Default TVR's I want one............shock horror

I don’t really know what to replace the sierra with so have come up with the slightly GENIUS idea of replacing it with 2 cars……………a Clio 172 to arse about in (and make driving at sensible speeds seem interesting again!) and a TVR of some description for sunny weather and general V8 soundtrack with the roof down.

I know they catch fire………………

Will probably break down at the side of the road……………..and then catch fire

If I crash into a fag packet the car will disintegrate I’ll be killed and more than likely the car will catch on fire

Bad electrics mean the lights won’t work, cause a short leading to the car catching fire

Ok now that’s over with I want one with the rover V8 does that limit me to the early Griffiths/Chim’s or did they use the engine right the way through the production run?

Any thing else to know? I might consider a cerby when did they change to the AJP engines? And are they much slower with the rover lumps compared to the AJP ones

Why wold you want one with a Rover engine in it? Even the 5litre ones are not that great if you used to really powerful cars.

Only one that is 400bhp Cossie type fast is a Cerbera, which, unsuprisingly, doesnt come with a hotted up Rover lump in it.

Stavros are the Tuscan engines that bad, gonna get one next year but havent got a clue about which engine is in what model variant, was of the understanding that an 02 onwards Tuscan came with a better engine than the W-51 plates?

basically i cant be arsed with having it as a "fast car" just want it to dick about in the the summer all i would need to do to the cossie is slap a GT30 on or a T4, remap and injectors and I am looking at way over 500 brake so not even going to try and get something to try and compete on top end power. its just for fun really and the rover V8 has got to be more reliable/hands on.

I've been real close to buying a Sagaris a few times now but something stops me from doing it - just dont know what it is

But the Sagaris or the T350 are the only TVR's I would have as the others look totally wank imo.

I also love Griffith 500s . They're not THAT slow, due to having no weight and "allegedly" 340bhp .

They defo have a good power to weight ratio (what-ever the true power figure is), as they will do high 12s quarters .

In my mind, the Griffs are better cars than the later TVRs, as they seem much more reliable and they also look "prettier", but that is subjective .

All the reasons i'd go for the Griff 500 over the new ones ...............plus it has 500 in the name key thing is not having all my eggs in one basket as it were so the 172 should keep me entertained enough for all the times I cant use the Trevor. I have not totally decided on the TVR..............just the fact that i will now get two cars so still open to suggestions on a "fun" car for say 12k thats a bit of a different experience to the cossie.

prob this winter I reckon? will let you know mate

The 3DR is going to be broken I think might try and sell if whole to as a few people have asked after it. But will be 500 money really so prob not viable as a whole. need to work out what I want for bits and see how far off it would be in parts.

i had a chimaera many years ago.
wasn't a bad car in all honesty. wasn't unreliable (was a 13k mile example though!) and i managed to get my mountian bike in the boot nto to mention doing the weekly shop in it as well.
not even remotely as fast as the ajp cerbera but i'd have one again anyday.
speed 6 engines are generally the nightmare ones to avoid, but if you want the rover lump (as stav says - not the best engine by a long way!) then you should be ok.
did bite a bit when i popped the bonnet after having a new airflow meter put on to find that the new one had a landrover sitcker on it!

I actually really like TVR's !! Was seriously considering a Cerbera 4.5 V8 (is that a Rover lump?) jus before I started this Cossie, my ladie talked me into the Cossie !!

Andy, if you do decide to do it, PLEASE give me 1st refusal on the wheels off your 3dr !! (sorry to be a volcher lol) and prob lots of other bits !!

What bout the Tuscan 440 or whatever it is ?? Relitively cheap nowadays arn't they ??

If you want fun then buy a vx220 turbo. There good cars that are reliable turn heads and are still tunable if you want, as a standard car they are pretty quick so a 300bhp 1 would be a very good fun car imo

not the rover lump. this is the ajp v8. excellent engine, sadly let down by the usual tvr niggles

if you buy one i'd advise having a second and maybe a third car.

on the other hand. i'm a huge fan of of tvr and they are most certainly awesome machines. as far as bang for your buck goes, tvr all the way imo. probably won't feel fast sompared to your cossie, but i don't think anyone can deny they all look much better!

btw be warned,, apparently LOADS of tvr's get clocked by people in a attempt to sell them on,,,,,,,,, any tv what seems to have average millage could actually be a low milage one that the seller has upped the miles to make it sound reliable,,,, most low miles tvr's aint cause the owner uses it for church,,,, its cause the return journeys are on the back of a trailor

You will probably buy one cos they are fast on paper & look good.

You will have probs from day 1 (mine overheated on the way home ) love it & then hate it on a weekly basis & then decide it aint worth it & look for something else, please check all bits are attached after each journey.
Seriously best get them out of your system now.

They are the AJP lumps in those ones. No worries on the rims will let you know when I am ready to kill the cossie.

As per original post i'd have another car the Trevor would just be a toy car that doesn't owe me anything. Is it major probs or just stupid things like starters overheating and reshimming/ leaky gaskets etc etc

as to be fair that wouldnt bother me too much and would get stuck into sorting things like that out........had the cossie engine out twice made own looms etc etc I just dont want to deal with full rebuilds dry sumps or whatever failing etc.

My sis used to have a TVR, cant remember what one

Only way it ever let her down was it used to lock her out lol, but think that was more of an alarm issue

Used to get a bit warm quickly sitting in traffic, but nothing the fans couldnt cope with, and hers was meant to have the uprated rad fitted

MOST annoying thing I found with it, was every 1/10 of a mile there was this great clonk (ok an annoying clicking) as the oddometer clicked over , do they all do that ?

Used to make me laugh all the "secret squirrel" hiding places for switches
Even had an MOT guy stuck in it for 1/2 an hour apparently cos he didnt know how to open the doors lol
