It would be great to see race grids full of these glorious machines that where active during the 1970s and 80s known as Modsports and Special Saloons.
These Historic race cars used super wide slicks, semi space frames and outrageous horsepower,it was always entertaining to see the mighty Super Saloon Fords race the BMW CSL Batmobiles,Big Berthas of Gerry Marshall, the all conquering Skodas as well as those fearsome Historic Modsports AC Cobras,Jags, Astons,Elvas, the Black Brick Caterhams and the nimble Turner Sports Cars.
Isnt about time there was an Association to bring back all these Historic Race Cars,so they can entertain us all once again.
Does any forum members know where any of these race cars are or if there is an Association catering for these beasts.
Occasionally you see the odd one race but never full grids of them and I am sure there are lots hidden away in workshops and garages unable to race because they dont comply to recent race regulations.
Whats your fond memories and favourites.

Just heard rumblings of a Ford Special Saloon wanting to get rid of its cobwebs, its supposed to be a fearsome beast that would even frighten the life out of dear old Rod Birley.

Interesting to know where the car wants to play.

There seems to be a New Association just started for this type of race car called the HMSA Historic Modsports and Saloon Association www.historicmodsportsandsaloons.com
I wonder whats happened to the cars you mentioned above, would love to see them race again.
And whatever happened to those Space framed Capris that raced in the 70s and 80s,they where monsters and highly entertaining.

The www.historicmodsportsandsaloons.com are changing the site content next week.
Should be good to see these mighty Ford race cars mix it with the Modsports.

Most of the Historics we see at meetings such as Goodwood are parade racing where they tend to show than to race.
So should be great to see this HMSA have grids full of these beasts that can still compete Ten Tenths and offer the spectators an exciting thrill.
Didnt Brookes for Hire have a Special Saloon Ford they raced.

Went on the HMSA Historic Modsports and Saloon Association site www.historicmodsportsandsaloons.com and the variety of Historic race cars look really exciting.
We have joined and maybe in the future we can race our RS Ford Escort BDG against some Thundersaloon Ford Capris,Vauxhalls and a load of Modsports race cars like the Lotus,TR and Turner sports cars.

The Magazine Dyno read out of this 1824cc short stroke crossflow showed it revved to 11,000 rpm on racing fuel and produced 230HP,which propels this race car to do the Quarters in 10.76 seconds and 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds.
Bloody Quick!!!
