Default Clients...

I have spent 2 weeks liasing with a client putting a proposal together. I have given the client the final price today which beats all the people bidding for the project by $375.

Now he turns round to me and says oh I don't need it anymore.

So thats 2 weeks of work probably a good 30 hours put in for absolutely naff all. AGAIN.

WHYYY!!!!

Rant over.
Thanks

Tim

No... Should I have done? It's not normally something I would include in the price you see.

If you think I should then should I write this into the current proposal or perhaps quote on top?

Thanks for your help

Maybe this is where you cut the $375 from the other quotes?

If the client thought you weren't willing to go that extra yard (or few inches) they may have doubted you commitment?

I'm assuming you did at least present your quote in the time honour fashion of a BarberShop quartet.

2 weeks of correspondance with a *edit - previously* trusted client whom I have worked with before. Emails back and forth clarifying points within the project.

If you were spending somewhere in the region of $5,500 I am sure you'd be the same.

Desperate for work? No. Mug? No. Thats just the nature of the job and is just the way the cookie crumbles.

If thats just the way the cookie crumbles, why are you posting about it on here?

And for 5500 dollars, which is what 4 days work (well it is at the rate I charge out at for website development) why spend 2 weeks working upto it

Sorry, I stand by everything I said.

You obviously work in a different way. I work for the small projects as much as I do for any other project as ultimately they bring in bigger projects.

I don't work directly with clients all the time, 70% of my time is with other development companies so that would obviously lead to repeat business.

I'm posting about it because I wanted to.

I stand by everything I said too You have no need to be sorry... It's not your fault

We do pre sales that doesnt result in a sale quite often, as do most people in this industry, I dont bother posting on PF about it though as its just another day at the office and who would care?

Mind you we never do two weeks work (which is how he made it sound in his orginal post) for a tiny little pisspot 5500 dollar project though.

If all he did was send a few emails back and forth, then why the fuck is he moaning about it.

Chip, instead of moaning about me posting a topic that I wanted to why not just go make your own successful topic instead?

Saves people jumping on the argument bandwagon.

To be honest I would normally expect a post like this to conjur up other peoples bad experiences rather than somebody trying to belittle me.

i think it's the same sort of bum aids stavros proved amy whinehouse had, which makes it doubly bad

but at least you didn't offer him some schezy time so you have not been able to spread it around so he's probably caught it off of someone else

One minute you have done 2 weeks work, the next minute its just a few emails, why not get your story straight about wether its a big deal or not, and then people know wether or not to cry for you

hard luck mate.

im in the same game but this is all down to WHO you know and not WHAT you know.

Im close to getting my sis who works for a major IT company sort me a project out which will pay some very very good money and hopefully bring in some external work for my own company.

Its swings and roundabouts as they say or you win some you lose some.

Dont worry about it and keep plugging away - you will get a bite sooner or later.

I am so sorry Chip (on your shoulder). Ever so sorry. Reaaaallllly sorrrrrry.

I clearly should have provided a break down of exact hours I had put into the project down to the very minute.

I should not have summarised as I was not aware my thread on this forum would be under such in depth analysis.

In future I will bear this in mind and ensure everything I type on Passionford is correct to the nearest, second, millimeter, thou or gps coordinate.

Have you made your successful topic yet? Have you finished attempting to belittle me over the internet yet? If not I suggest you get back to your Bluechip clients big boy

Yeh I know fact there was nothing wrong with the proposal, I think it's more a case of maybe my client has had a disruption his end. But without knowing I can only guess. I would have really enjoyed the project too.

As you say swings and roundabouts mate

Cool, so how many hours did you waste without a purchase order then?
(if you are having a thread about it, you may as well include some facts)

I have no desire to be a success on passionford, I just waste free time at work on here, you do it the other way around, you do work without payment, not vice versa

Im at a bluechip client's as we speak thanks mate, so no need to rush off to them

i asked an aa mechanic to look at my van today, he had a look around but couldn't find anything wrong with it so i went to ford

then had a big mac

not as disastrous as working for 2 weeks to be told "fuck off, we don't need you no more" but at least the majority of IT nerds are comiserating with you, and that's the main thing

bernie mac's dead
freddie macs broke
rain mac's been kicked out of vegas for counting cards
so only big mac can help, but i think he's scottish so perhaps that's not helping at all

The client often gets cold feet or they pull out/delay so the project commences when they are ready. Pain in the arse usually and Im glad I dont do the sales side of things - although i do for my own company as its pretty much a one band at the moment.

What exactly do you do?
