Default ST TDCI Mondeo's any one got one?

Anyone got a mondeo ST?
Looking at one for my dad, as he's doing quite a lot of mileage at the moment and doesn't want to keep putting miles on his beemer. Seems quite a lot of car for the money, 8ishk for an 05/06 car or you can get a year old one for about 11k
Look pretty nice, and some good spec one's with sat nav/recaros

Any advice on what to look out for? anything expensive that can go wrong?

the tdci's are great to drive when they are goin well, flywheels and starters are most common, fuel pumps go, and they're bad on injectors as well, for somr reason they go out of sync with the ecu and need recoded, seen a good few with that prob but dont know what causes it. the starters get contaminated with clutch dust and it wrecks the drive, just a design fault that all the duratorques have, hope that helps

I've got one

Cant fault it... Not the quietest of diesels out there but will slaughter bmw 330ds etc.

Problems to look out for. Damp footwells... just the membrane on the inner door which had a tendancy to come away on earlier models.

Injectors can be iffy. listen for a lumpy idle on startup. EGR's on earlier Euro 3 engines are of a poor design and easily blocked. Can be cleaned and a new one will set you back Ł120.

I consistently get 42-44 mpg round town and on a recent trip to the south of france I saw 52mpg average with the cruise control on at 75mph.

Definately go for a facelift model, nicer interior and exterior.

If he's doing serious miles then the fuel economy aint all that! couldn't get more than 40 mpg from mine but always had more than 50 mpg from my passat on the same journeys.

FPMSL!!! how many have you raced? haha. 330ds have way more power and torque as standard than ST. I went up against mate in his chiped ST agianst my standard 330d and was quicker. So how they "slaughter" 330d's god only knows.

Personally mate i like them, and would have one any day! Just becareful and ignore rubbish comments like above! lol

PMSL

I am in a superb situation to comment on that quote as i owned BOTH cars one after the other

I had a Remapped ST TDCi on a 54 plate, that got wrote off so i bought a 330ds.............

The 330d was ALOT faster than the mapped ST TDCi............

The TDCi Will NOT Slaughter a 330d BMW FACT!!!!!
