Default escort cossie b+m quick shifter problem help please

as above i have a b+m quick shifter and the gear stick keeps dropeing down .. i have taken the centre console out 3 times now and have put the clip back on that keeps the stick up . this time the clip is bent out of shape and wont go back on. the clip is a bit like a ser clip but over laps its self. has any one had the same problems and if so did you ever get a clip strong enough that didnt brake again..
i no mike rainbum does quick shifters that keeps the oe gear stick and doesnt have this problem but gear box has to be droped out to get it fitted. and thats lots of work
