Default Laptop advice please..........

Im after a bit of advice on which laptop to buy please. I know absolutely nothing about laptops/computers and what different types there are so any advice appreciated.

Im just after a cheap one, nothing special as it will only be used for ebay and email.

Obviously i want one that will be quick on the internet. Is that actually down to the laptop itself or just down to my connection/internet provider?

Cheers

Its down to abit of both, but mainly the computers spec.

Something like this would be ok http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/pro...rmationSection
Its only got a 10.2" screen but that means its cheap, and light, and if your only checking emails or web browsing it will be fine.
Its got wireless which is a must for any laptop now
If you want something with a bigger screen you will have to spend abit more

To be fair the ebuyer one is probably better value for money but its up to you.

Ebuyer is great by the way, ive ordered things off there before and the delivery is fast and everything ive bought was fine

Thanks for that mate. Yes something like that would be ideal. What do i need to be looking for in the specs to find out how fast it will be?

nothing ive done it for you either of those would be spot on for what you need to do.
But for your reference, its the processor speed/type, and how much ram it has.
Both of those havent got top of the range processors, but for what your going to do it will be fine.
If you wanted a faster processor you'd have to spend about 400+, and that would be a waste as you'd not be utilizing the full power.

Completely the opposite, internet speed has hardly anything to do with computer spec in today's technology. Maybe 5 years ago, but any new laptop is capable of keeping up with even the quickest connection.

im not talking going onto a speed test website and getting faster results because your pc spec is good im talking like when you double click your internet icon and the home page comes up, or clicking back on the browser, if your pc is fast this aspect of browsing will seem faster.

For the money thats very good, its hard to find a brand new laptop with 2GBs of ram for 250 or under, it would be fine for web surfing and the like plus its got a 15" screen

So whats the deal with the processers? Will that determine the speed?

yeah processor speed and amount of ram.

celeron/centrino amd 64 are older and only any good at simple things like web surfing etc, if you want a faster/more up to date one then you'd look at laptops with a core 2 duo processor

Don't be so silly. Celeron's and AMD64's are still fine to use for more than just websurfing. My mums computer is a 2.66 Celeron with 512mb RAM and has no problem with (light) graphics stuff, office stuff, web stuff, playing films, editing films and music, basically everything other than gaming really.... Just cos technology has evolved, and you can do new things with it, doesn't mean that you can't do what you used to be able to do on older machines....
