All depends on what mods it has and how its driven! 7k doesnt always buy a "good one", but maybe a good specced saff thats been murdered all its life!
Theres loads to choose from, including mine!

my nan departed and all i got was a winmau dart board and a henry vacum cleaner,
can't you flog the mr2 and get a 3dr and do her proud, they are good investments imo and a nice one holds the money

will happily sell the mr2 but would like both really, would rather have a standard saph as u know it hasnt had some muppet pissing around with it, ps my nan was more of a mother and am still so upset about loosing her...........thought get a car so awesome id remember her everytime i turn the key
if i was you i would get one for about 5000 which should get a half decent 1 then keep the 2000 to one side incase things start to go wrong.
u could go get a minter for 7000 but if it blew up on the way home you would have to start saving.

Sounds very good advice to me. You should get a very good standard ish one for 5k.

to be honest i'd say dont worry to much about engine spec or head gaskets etc, yes they are very important but the biggest prob with saffs is the dreaded rust, after all a blown engine can be fixed without to much bother but a rotten shell means the end, so just pay extra attention to rear chassis legs, sills(inner and outer), inner wings, rear strut mounts and spring plates and the strut tops in the bay, trust me these points are far more important to a good saff than a smokey turbo etc
