i like the BBS, smoothed front panel, altho it would look nicer in single wiper IMHO, thing is... I'm not into H2o's much but rhey are cool except Kias and a few other things....
i think that if someone is passionate about cars, even modifying etc, then we shouldn't put divides between our scenes, we could all learn a lot from eachothers autostyling instead of taking the piss?

well said lad, just shows how un-open minded some people are.
they fail to realise that the rat owner is doing that to his car to enjoy himself. the same way they are modifying they,re ford to enjoy themselves.
so why call it crap..

And if it wasn't for the Story behind the car and how it came to be I may very well have opted to paint it Original colours but because of it's story and history I just didn't want to take that away from it.
The quick and short version of the story though is this:
It was found in SHedd Oregon, small farm town.
The car broke down and the original owner just parked it. After all the years went by of sitting there, Blackberry bushes covered the car so you actually could not see it at all. The old man died and the estate went for sale. The person who bought the property was clearing out the shrubs/blackberries and there it was! after 30 Years of sitting there!
The guy who originally Imported it to the UK had it featured in VolksWorld Magazine in 2006 as 'The Zombie' and thats what it's been known as ever since.

Cheers dude That was with my old 'baby' engine too. New one ran a mid 13 standing quarter first time out with fuck all traction!
A few 'before ' pictures...
Check how diverse the air cooled communities taste in cars are http://www.volkszone.co.uk/VZi/showthread.php?t=571786
You might be suprised at the amount of Fords there

Natural old car 'rat' cool in a twisted way, but not something i'd ever do myself.
Newish 'rat' car, paintstripped with a roof rack, very very sad. Owned by attention seeking whores. They are the goths of the car world, look shit and cutting themselves is the only way people will take notice. (all marques by the way)

For anyone who missed it, MAMBOMAN is on about my 1959 Karmann Ghia with completely natural Patina.
As MAMBOMAN said, if you want to see what ACTUALLY goes into some of our cars instead of just listening to someone elses biased 'heresay' then come have a look through our readers rides section.
I'm not here to argue though, I tend to just pop up and say Hi whenever my name or car is mentioned.

My mk3 Golf VR6 is kinda rat look. Only because it hasn't been washed in about 5-6 years and gets parked under a tree when I'm at work so it looks a complete dog. Its not done to follow a trend but out of pure laziness. Still goes well though so makes it a sweeter thing when you cane some polished turd on the roads

its all about individuality, it may look the same to you but most ratted out cars are different in one way or another.
Personally im not OVERLY into it, my vision of an ideal mk2 golf would be black wide g60's slammed and some smoothing.

Thats just sex.
I'm nursing a semi here...... Why make your car all rusty and shit looking, when you can do that!?! That car with a 300bhp 1.8T and I'd be well happy!

A mid 13 shaking down on an engine with no turbo, no nitrous and carbs. A shitty track, full weight with nothing taken out and street tyres. Even so it crossed the line at 103 mph with no traction until third gear
And if you drove your car on the track on fire, it means you're stupid if not retarded in my book...

You've got an excuse for nearly every second that slow quarter took you mate
As I was doing 100 odd mph at the time, it made more sense to carry on up the track to the fire marshall than to stop halfway up the track and them have to run to me at 3mph instead.

It seems a shame that pretty much all Ford stereotypes have been shown up on this thread bar a few members. Shame as I had quite a good nosey around and some of you have got some really nice cars too

I dont mind rusty rat look cars, but i dont like the idea of mint cars being attacked in order to acheive the rat look,
if you want a rat look at least start with a car in poor condition to begin with,
guy i know has a rat look corsa B its just for fun, he hasnt spent money on it, just got some paint stripper flapper disc, and stickered it roof racked it, even has a scalectrix track opn the parcel shelf, all done with stuff he found in the garage, he hasnt spend a fortune doing it, and thats the way it should be, even think it was a cat D write off before he started,
cant bear the thought of someone buying my nice shiney RS to make it rat look, might never sell it just to make sure haha. makes me want to cry,

Fords are alright, the older the better in my opinion, but old stuff interests me like Cortinas, Escorts ETC

My sisters split bus was naturally 'rat-look' too, fresh import with sun-faded paint etc. We just slammed it and left it at that.

As is said last year on this thread...........Typical "FORD" mentality.
Its one of them things you either "understand" or will never get.
RAT look, infact the whole VW scene is way deeper than having a shite looking rust bucket.
All fords are about it how much money youve spent, how much power yove go, how fast it is. Bit boring after a while.
The ford scene is also very clicky, bit like a school play ground at times, Vw scene always seems to be one big happy family.
Dont get me wrong, many of you know me, and know ive done a few concourse fords in the past, and am being sympathetic of an old RSi at the mo.
But I choose VW in any guise over a ford anyday, infact once ive decided to sell the RSi im going straight back into a vdub.
Id even go as far as saying id have traded my escort cosworth for a split screen beetle or van.
This is my old 1949 beetle sitting with my freshly concourse restored S1 a few years back now............And i know which one id save in a fire

i like it, especially like the corsa b story where its cheap and fun, thats what it should be,
personally i wouldnt go the whole paint stripped and whatever but just cheap mods for you to have a luagh with or to learn to paint or put an install in so if it mucks up it doesnt matter, or practical cars like roof racks and toe bars which make them realy practical 2nd cars
rat ftw

What an entertaining thread, having owned both Fords and VWs.... I like the rat look in some circumstances..... you either understand it or you don't.
However, you will never get away from the fact that.... some of the early vans and even the cars on here that have been slammed....... in most cases will still be worth a gread deal more than 90%+ of the Cosworths on here......
I think its funny....lol

My 1949 in that picture is worth £10k, no glass, engine, interior, lights and not an inch of shiny paint anywhere
A running 49 will set you 20-25k these days!
Theres a lot to be said for rat look, the cars are more useable and its not as if you are worrying about a stone chip every time you go out.
I dare say most rat look cars are mechanically sounder than many of the shiny polished fords on here also

It'd be interesting to see how the people that own new cars with a rusty bonnet would react if their car had brake fluid poured on it or it got keyed or something. I bet they'd shit themselves and cry, yet they go out to try and make their car part of the rat look scene.

i understand it as said on older cars that didnt cost too much but purposely rusting a modern or totally new car is just dumb.
i bought my xr2i for £200 2 years ago which has dents, digs n some surface rust here n there on it and looks like a shitter but now goes like a little rocket which will prob embarass a few people.does that count as a rat look or a ruined car?

"Rat look" beats "chav look" anyday
Half the time more effort goes into the rat look...
Rat look...car looks rotten and wrecked...yet performs like a well maintained horny race horse!
just look at this crap:
at least this guy gets it!
