As everyone else said, GTTDI Golf.

I would also consider a TDI Bora though, soooo much cheaper to buy than Golfs, especially if you get a Highline like i just got, more spec than a GTTDI Golf.

Cheaper insurance too.

Definatly either a golf tdi or a bora tdi if you need a bit more room. Or maybe a 330d/530d sport.

Anything german, AUDI A4, 3 Series BMW, Golf / Bora / passat TDI etc

I had a mk4 GTTDI Golf and it was a decent motor, although they look a bit dated now, and every young kid seeems to have one with 18" audi rs4's on, the've become the new nova or something, one of the main reasons I sold mine

I now have BMW 320 diesel, very good car, just a bit or a heart stopper sometimes in the wet / snow

as i ve mentioned before - i'm really happy with my volvo s60 d5. 2.4 diesel auto (but the manuals quicker) . 20v 5cyl 163bhp std. a tuning box makes it quicker... around 200ish claimed.....

nice car... looks decent.... it'll never get any attention if left somewhere overnight.... the old bill don't seem to notice it at speed on the motorway.....

one of the most comfortable interiors EVER... inc things like audi and bmw.... to hard imho!

Mondeo ST TDCi 155PS, 7" Widescreen satnav, bluetooth phone and xenon headlights options included.

You can have this if you like for 6K, you just got to wait about 3 months until the wife moves over here

Need shot of it like I said as we'll soon be abroad permanently.

Mk5 5 gt tdi sport has 170 bhp and still gives 50mpg!!!
Youd be stupid to buy anything else

The Mk 5 cost me Ł6400!!!!!! (through auction, will be about 9k dealer price)

(unless its a Vw sister ie, skoda, seat, audi which are basically the same cars)

Ł6k could easily get you good one of either a 330d or a 530d. Plenty about too so you can take your pick, especially with the current financial situation and people/dealers struggling.

I looked at 330d m sports and the like before i bought the mk5 golf gt sport. and to honest with the BMW you do get a hell of a lot more car for the same money.

but, and its a big but. you will be looking at a e36. which is a pretty car, but in my opinion with bmw's they do date really quickly.

a newer e46 shape looks the nads, but u will pay Ł9k+ for a reasonable 330d

it was for this reason i went back to Vw. cos for the money he wants to spend

6k will get a high spec nice looking golf
6k will get a specked up but dated looking ("poor mans") BMW.

just my opinion tho

Have a look on autotrader mate. You can get an E46 330d sub-100k for Ł6k easily enough. Even a few on there with 80k for that sort of money. May be a tad harder to find a decent sport but its still very possible, as you could really be looking at cars up for Ł6495 and get them for Ł6k.

You could take your pick from loads if you dont mind the less powerful, but still very capable, E46 320d too.

bloody hell your right, this was about 4-5 months ago i was looking. cant believe the prices have dropped that much. (well i can, ive got 6 transits for sale but no one can afford them with the state of the ecomony at the mo!)

id say a 330 d m sport with less than 70k which is what i wanted is still out of the price range tho!

anyway whats all this BMW talk, its clear from this thread the Golf gt tdi wins

Although stuff buying the mk4 i wouldnt pay anymore than Ł4k for a mk4 gt tdi, if u can stretch to a mk5 gt tdi/sport you wont regret it its soooo much more refined! theres plenty out there for 6k if you know where to look

Well i never think of early 330d's se etc.

If was me i would prefer newer Golf etc. As you go and look at the BM's for that price and they generally had hard life. Maybe get better 320d.
