insurance help
My girlfreinds brother is having trouble insuring his car as he is young with no ncb..
his solution........
Get my girlfriend (his sister)to insure it as main driver with him being the second driver. He would obviously be paying her insurance but would save £500 pound going of the quotes.
The car would be registered at his address and in his name .
Dont sound right to me , if he bumps the car will my girlfriend lose her no claims? what other potential pitfalls are there??

He shouldnt have bought a car that he cant insure himself.
All young people should buy a car that they can afford to run/insure, and NOT go on mum/dads/sisters/brothers insurance.
I know that doesnt help but thats my feelings on it.

Depending on the wording in the policy, as technically his sister is insuring a car not belonging to her, in the event of an accident / claim, it would get thrown out by the insurance, leaving her (or him) to pick up the bills.
Have had this happen a couple of times in work (I work in a bodyshop dealing with insurance work) and it almost always ends up the same.
However, some places DO allow you. I insured my work car, a Fiat Cinquecento which is in my name on the logbook on a policy in my partners name (not married, just living together) with Diamond with me as a named driver and they were fine about it, as we could both be using it @ any time and were in the same address.
I would basically advise to read the small print in the policy.

20K+ Super Poster.
One of the questions you will always be asked as a proposer for car insurance is "who is the main driver", when your g/f lies about this and gets caught if anything should happen, she could well be in the shit as well as her brother.
This practice is called FRONTING it is ILLEGAL, it is being clamped down on big time.
I fully agree with the sentiments about getting a car you can afford to run/insure etc, you build NCB yourself that way too.
