Default Fitting dado rail?

Is it as easy as it looks? Our hallway is massive high ceilings, and to redecorate means painting the full lot, i was thinking about getting some dado rail so we can replace the bottom paper and paint it when it needs it instead of having to pay someone to re paper the full lot.

Its just the angles of the cuts for up the right hand side of the stairs x2 that im concerned about, the rest of it is straight lines so i reckon theyll be quite easy to do.

Wickes seems the cheapest place? And would MDF be better than wood as it wont have knots in it etc?

Any advice appreciated as need to get cracking on it, Finleys just ripped a big chunk of paper off the bottom today.

Dead easy to do, just make sure its level!
Up the side of the stairs is easy too, offer it on the wall and rule along both sides, then offer it on the line of the stairs and rule both sides, so you should have 2 parallel horizontal lines and 2 parallel lines that follow the angle of the stairs. Where these two pairs of lines cross, draw through the two inersecting places and you will have the angle, which you copy onto your bevel

The stairs has a large open bannister up 2 flights, not a wall either side.

Theres a border on there at the minute which looks pretty straight, i was thinking of just measuring from the skirting board up over in a few places and making sure they all correspond? If the border has been put up properly itll be a lot easier as i could use that as a guide then remove the border and re paper after fitting the dado?

Are these the cuts you mean?
Imagine red lines are your pencil marks from the rail, and the blue line is what you set the bevel to, just read my explanation and its pants

itll just break the walls up as they are all around 12ft ceilings, then theres a really high bit up the stairs, should bring it down a bit

drill some hole sin the dado rail before it goes up
then stick it on to the wall along the pre measured level lines (don't measure from the skirting board as there is no reason thats going to be level)
drill holes into the wall through the predrilled holes in the dado
they don't have to be big
use them hammer fixings to bang them in and job done
if you want to be sepcially trick, use something to cover the holes with (normally use soemthing like gripfill if it's going to be painted, else drill some plugs out to cover the holes and glue them into place)
done in a day
