Default Evo's the differences

Im looking at getting a new car and I fancy an Evo 8 or 9. I have been looking on the auto trader site but I havent a clue what Im looking at. Can anyone explain the differences between the ones listed as MR and the ones that are FQ's. I have have just looked again and there are some listed as MIVEC....what the blinking flip.

has anyone got one, and what are they like to live with..fuel, comfort etc.

Cheers

Neil

the biggest differance with evos compared to your escort cos is evos go down in value,i could not tell the differance between a 5 and a 6 and or a 7 and a 8 and a 8 and a 9,there is a noticeble differance imo between a 4 and a 5 and 6 and a 7 though.

a 8 fq is a warmed up gsr,a 8 mr has a alloy roof skin and other tweeks and is newer

Neil,

The Evo 9 has the Mivec Engine, the 8 MR`s came with different cams to the normal 8 so to speak, they also have different suspension too Bilstein. BBS Lightweight alloys.

Fuel wise not the best, if you can, go for the 9, great car..

Edited to say..

MR Colours,

Gunmetal
Cool Silver
Scotia White
Palma red

I do prefer the 9 to be honest as I think the back bumper is more pleasing on the eye... Is the Mivec engine pretty bullet proof..? Im going to go look at a couple today to get the Mrs on side.. if I can find a blue or a red one I have cracked it

Cheers also Cozz, just fancy something a bit newer than the Escort. I do like the Escort and would keep it if I could but cant really afford to keep the two these days. I was looking at Subaru's.....Jesus, why anyone would buy one of those newis beyond me... You can pick them up for 14K which are only a year or so old.

They 9 can take 400- 420 bhp without to much worry on standard internals, you'll need a fuel pump, map, turbo back exhuast and you'll have yourself a great road car...

i have seen evo 9's in the trade for 14k and that was a few months ago they have probably taken another hit.
if you are ok about the depreciation i would get the 9 as the new 10 is ugly and gonna lose loads
evos are great cars though thats why i have one too

14k.. blimey. To be honest the depreciation isnt a massive thing as I will probably run it into the ground anyway... The escort I have isnt worth any bucks to me anyway.. its worth pennies as it has a V23 attached to it.. not desirable.. One of the reason I want to get rid of it.. nothing wrong with it and it drives fine but its just that stigma

can you elaborate on a v23, is that v car or somthing

seen evo 8's in the trade for just under 9 grand, but they were the 260 which imo are the best to modify to your tastes and you get the better imo 5 speed box, the 6speed is only better on the motorway when cruising as its more economical, but thats not why i buy evos or cozzies

No it means its been in a serious accident once in its life I think.. I think it means basically written off. Whether it was because it was financially or what I dont know. I have a Vehicle inspection check certificate with it from auto align. Thats what happens when you buy a car many moons ago without HPI... live and learn.

I did that online vehicle history thing but it came back a negative to being a write off.. so I havent got a clue why its V23.

I had an 8 last year and I thought it was great. It was a good all rounder that went well. I prefer the 6's to look at but I needed something in warranty and under a certain age to get some dosh back from work

There not dear to run or service or at least mine wasn't. I would of kept it but an X5 was calling my name.

Don't even bother comparing it to an EscCos as there two totally different cars IMO. Isn't V23 submitted Police talk meaning its been in a RTA?

when a car bitd was a valuable car or worth considerably more autoligned you could take it to autolign centre to have it checked for repairs and if passed reclassified on a hpi.
it basically means its been wrote off and a insurer has paid out but the car has been repaired to a high standard and fully checked by autolign and come off the v car.
because it still showed on a hpi in a differant way iirc it was condition inspected, i never bothered as you still knew it had been in a fire, flood, theft or crunch. then about 8 years ago maybe 10 they fucked the idea off.
i spoke to the main man at the biggest salvage company in the uk and he said autolign had stopped.
Neil don't think because of this you car is worth a carrot as youl just get vultures who will agree with you then sell it for proper money and if by some miracle sombody hpi's it they either play daft or say about autolign what i already said.
cozzies have history and a lot of them its accident but if its still a nice car it will sell.
i would rather have yours than a q plate.

Yeah sorry V23 is Police talk... I think its a marker they put on the car to inform us its been involved in an accident so if one is stopped it is checked thoroughly in case of being a ringer. Something like that anyway..

I only found out after I left my car at work in the yard. Someone thought it was an Lost or stolen at the time as I had the steering cowling off as my mate was working on the electrics for me so they did a check on it. I knew the op and they said it had a V23... so that was the first time I knew about it.. Sould have clicked really when I had a VIC certificate in the history. What a plum eh.

Cheers for that Karl... as I had that certificate I always thought it would be worth sod all . Like I said it is a nice car and I love it.. hasnt been used for about 6 years now and is still in my mates garage collecting dust.

I want to get a bit of use out of it as I use to love driving it and it was a real head turner.

Ill get it road worthy, post up some pics to see what people think.

That reminds me I must speak to Kelv about some headlights

Unfortunately they were on my external hard drive which went for a Burton not so long ago...doh

Im going to get my bum down my mates garage either today or tomorrow so will take some then... looks a sorry sight at the mo. Just been repainted and still waiting for it to be flatted and polished.

Its pretty much bog standard at the mo with a few bailey bits on it.. Needs a good clean inside I know that
