mine did this recently

so i turned it off - unplugged the power from the back - Pressed the power button to drain all life from the curcit boards - put the power back in - turned it on....hey presto works fine.

aparently sky can send a signal down the phone line to screw up your box once ur warrantys run out so you buy a new 1. thats what ive heard a mate of the familys works for sky and says he gets soo many call outs for boxes breakin down inside a month after warrantys runnin out. might just be a coincidence but wouldnt put it past sky

alryt not thru fone line but they can send signal or watever to break it. ask m8y how long after his warranty ended it happened they can do more than u fink nowadays had 3 boxes go within 2 weeks of warranty runnin out

lol Thats new to me, i work for sky at there headoffice in osterley for there research and tech development team with all the programmers and testers and hardware engineers and i've never heard of this which means its bollox, whats more i'm sure thats against the law. We do send software updates through the line to your box each software update gets thoroughly tested before release we also send afew other things for your tv guide and planner info

those of you who have HD will see a new look to your STB software.

Oh and wait for sky 3D its fucking awesome is all i'm saying!

Perhaps if your friend had brains and hence DIDNT work for Sky he'd have figured this out for himself by now !!

I've got an old Sky+ box thats brand new but only the original size disk (40 or 80gig iirc) you can have for 40quid. One of my engineers lives in Brentwood so could drop it off to you next week if that helps.

Definitely a load of shite, worked for sky for 9 years and have also had hundreds of calls from folk just outside their warranty - but also had just as many from folk in warranty.

They are just as likely to break down as your tele/video/dvd/washing machine/car - just bad luck if it break's down just outside warranty

Sorry to hijack the thread but I've got a problem I'm still tryin to sort.

I've done a diy install and bought a new sky+ box of a reputable seller on ebay. I've installed a quad lnb and another cable frm te dish (without moving it) and phoned sky to pair the box but all I get is "no sattelite signal being received" message. The bloke I bought it off is just ignoring me!

When the old box is plugged in on either cable the picture is sound and appears imediatly, so surely this proves the install is ok?? The bloke is trying to say its the install at fault when I think it's the box.

Sky just want to send an engineer out at a cost of 60 quid which defeats the object of diy!

What are your thoughts please mate??

No worries,

I dont really do domestic stuff. Hence why its a brand new box thats now a couple years old !!

well little update...

the o/h rung sky... and after a few "canelling" threats, we had a visit booked for £32.50 where they would replace the box if they couldn`t fix it...

so we have a new box.. or maybee reconditioned that works...
