You did NOT get a section 59 yet then, it was just an empty threat unless they are planning on popping one in the post due to not having the right form or something.

As Chip said its basically an ASBO for cars or rather the way you have driven your car, it does give the powers that be the right take your car and in worsed case crush it, best advice is if you get one section 59 and you want to carry on driving like a twat is to make a change of ownership on your logbook then put it straight back into your name this basically voids the first section 59 and gives you a new life even tho it makes your car have 1 more owner on the logbook, im not saying its big or clever but if you do get stung with one its the best way to go about it if you dont want your car taken away and made into a washing machine, or a plane or quite possably another car........

When they hand out Section 59's at hams hall they just say you cannot be there for 24hrs so thought it was just the same as the ASBO's they used to hand out all the while

think if he gets busted again they can impound the car and jizz on the steering wheel or something or possibly do a turd in the glove box and crush the car.
doesnt help with it being bright yellow I was doing some silly speeds on the way back with the ALS on poping hoooj flames out the back on the way home and saw the 5-0 going the other way

Section 59 applies to both the vehicle and the driver. That is to say if Jim happens to be driving a car belonging to a friend in the future and gets caught "causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public" or driving in a manner considered careless / inconsiderate, then his friends car is going to get seized.
It's the same if Jim sold the car to a new owner - this person is spoken to about his driving and it's discovered that the vehicle has a s59 warning against it. The vehicle can be seized in this instance.

close but no cigar.....Sec 59 is issued to the vehicle and the driver at the time. If you sell the car then the sec 59 stays with it until it expires, usually 12 months. No paperwork has to be given at the time as it can follow on the post. If you drive another vehicle like a loon then sec 59 is still in play with you and also if your vehicle is being driven by someone else like a loon then its still game on. Vehicles do get seized especially by traffic, and they do get crushed.

If the police were to enforce this rule with zero tolerance I'm sure we'd all be receiving S59s in the post.
Most of those things are subjective, what annoys me (old folk, austin metros, women drivers..etc...) is not going to be the same as what annoys someone else.

Jim you can always contest it but to be honest I dont think it will get you anywhere. Section 59 is just a warning which has been given to you by an officer who will record the details in their pocket book / Incident record book so the only people you can contest it with is the officer in question or their duty officer. Its not something where you can an independent hearing such as a courts decision. The only way I think you could do it is to speak to the duty officer at the police station. Sorry I know thats not much help.
I think in hind sight I would take a sec 59 over 3 points for speeding or worse, thats if you were speeding that is

What an excellent 'do it all' category. Thats 1 for the police and 0 for human rights.

It's a better deterrent due to the financial hit being higher. Ł120 round these parts to get the car back from the compound plus storage for any days where the car sits around doing nothing. Plus of course, the long walk home and other complications, if you don't have the money to pay at the time.

Human rights... oh come off it. So what about members of the public human rights when they have some arse sitting outside their address doing wheel spins etc. Dont you think they deserve to live in peace.
Its not a do it all category, the vehicle has to be causing alarm, distress or annoyance... driving around in your car sensibly doesnt do this.

Oh do behave, the whole section 59 thing is a total joke, as its a copper acting as judge and jury, something they arent even vaguely qualified to do, its the first step towards judge dredd
you're now going to tell me that its not, as after the second one, when they take your car away, you can then go to court to get it back, but thats just bollocks frankly as its too late by then as you've already lost your car and no real evidence is looked into anyway, they just take the coppers word for it is as it was purely a "in his opinion" thing.
My mate got one when he drove through an empty sainsburys car park at night and cut diagonally across some empty spaces instead of driving around them, seriously, how the fuck is that antisocial?
Some coppers really are complete dicks, and thats why none of them should be given ANY powers that can effect people IMHO, they just cant be trusted with it.

he actually said to me "i can't do you for speeding so i'll section 59 it"
quality comment was "do you think that kind of driving is appropriate for this time of the day?" what, 1am is peak time is it, would it be more appropriate in the rush hour?
and "i assume youre familiar with the accident on homesdale road recently where a lady died" "no officer i'm not" "oh, well, there was an accident" NO SHIT!

I saw a one of those signs the other day saying 5 people had died during the last year on this stretch of road.
Just made me consider the amount of traffic that goes through, the amount of people per car and then realise that those were damn fine odds - time to put the lead down!
