i started having chiropractic treatment in germany, as over there it is recognised as a proper form of healing and given on the equivalent of the nhs, unlike here where gp's cannot refer you and you have to pay private. but it's worth it, as henry sorts me out in less than an hour and relieves immediately what would normally take a week to recover from (i get a twisted pelvis and then the back muscles lock up against a trapped nerve)

I was told that the strongest pain killer in the world will be of no ease or help where pain in the back is concerned. Does anyone know if this is true?

i also suffer with back pain too

was is SOO much agony 2 years ago i was given morphine to sort the pain

i take tramadol every day cause sitting at a desk hurts my back belive it or not !

now dont take the piss,,,,, but i got a old peoples chair from a rest home in my bedroom, the one with the wooden arms on and i can sit in that typing away,,, like i am now for hours and my back feels better

shame its soo fucking ugly or i would have it in the front room,,, or at my desk at work

honestly them high back old womans chairs REALLY work well,, THATS why they have them i was told,, when i was given one FOC from the missus nans home ( imagine that, i was given a chair from a old peoples home)

i tend to avoid anything that can injure my back also these days too

I used to laugh at guys moaning about their bad back...

... until I was floored by it myself. It hurt to be sitting down, standing up, laying down or moving. Getting from one position to another literally brought tears to my eyes.

Two sessions at the physiotherapist sorted me out. Seemingly facet joint number 3 got stuck and my back muscles went into spasm.

The pain came back a couple of months ago and I couldn't get back to the first lady so used another who did the job, but maybe wasn't as good?

Anyway, what is the difference between a chiropractor, osteopath and physiotherapist?

physio is excercises to help strengthen other muscles to help relive the issue, say the back pain is muscle so you learn how you use all the area rather than over use one muscle till it gets sore like a mother fucker and no strength in the others

chiropractor seems to stretch the bones, make more flexable and make the brief bit of excess pain turn into the BEST pain relief after,,,,, i LOVE my neck being done !!!

oseopath is the same but aint got the nice feeling after,,,,, just feels like you have been beaten up and have pain everwhere that you no longer give a flying fuck about that the little twinge in your back pms

sorry, seriously i think osteopath is a doctor JUST for backs

Got 1 slipped and 1 prolapsed meself
swimming is great or i strap me wrists up and hang from me hands in me staircase
Gave up the pills about 7 years ago cos the amount i had to take fooked me bowels up (now suffer from IBS as well) the bext step was to take pain killers up the arse
So i just puff, it relaxes me enough to sleep, rather die of lung cancer than spend the rest of me life popping pills up the poop shoot
On the pluss side after 10 odd years the pain goes away cos the nerves die, the down side is numb legs
I often get out me truck and fall flat on me face, which amusses the kids no end

Always used to think "back pain, can't be that bad surely?" until I had a problem about 5/6 years ago with a muscular spasm in the lower back when cycling.

I'd never had pain like it before (until I rode into a tree fractured my ribs and dislocated my collar bone a couple of years later, but that's another story ), was bent over double and couldn't straighten up.

Went to see a local osteopath (ex-professional road bike racer too) and he sorted out them problem in a couple of sessions. Only thing I didn't like was the manipulation where you hear the crack!

Well recommended that you go see one.

The only thing that helps relieve my pain is a localised steroid injection (basically an epidural), waiting list is huge around here though and private it's just shy of a grand a pop, and can be hit and miss and cannot be repeated that often.

ok lots of confusion here!
lets clear things up little.
there are no two osteopaths or chirorpractors who work the same. they tend to develop there own style and even though they fundamentaly do the same stuff there can be variations. it is the case of finding something that suits you.
physio- exercise rehabilation and masage (all body)
chriro- spinal manipulation (back cracking) (Spine)
osteo- manipulation, massage and exercise (All body inc spine)

this is not definative but a basic overview and you will get different practioners doing differnt treatments.

i wasnt born an osteopath and researched before i did my degree and found that osteopathy is the most complete form of treatment and thats why i went down the route.

medicatiion in terms of backpain will never solve any of the problems...its just pain relief!

EASY RAN! pop down mate and il fix your back up for you properly. desi treatment is very risky mate!

I done in my back falling down a hill and landing on my bergen That was quite a few years ago when i was fit enough to look at a hill without having a heart attack!!!

I found lying on my back legs in that position worked well when my back was at its worse!!! Still do it now if i get a lot of lower back pain. awkward to sleep like that but i just pulled bed away from wall and slept legs laying on top of the headboard as it was about right hieght when laid flat on bed to have knees bent and calfs resting on a pillow bungeed to the headboard. Often i woke up knees up to chest feotal type position on side but it helped me drop off to sleep.

Im lucky as my back has been more or less ok and the lower back pain only comes back either if im lifting more than a few boxes or i get over a certain wieght. Good incentive to stop the pie munching and loose wieght!!!

i pulled me back while sitting in my mums car during while she was doing some 'spirited' driving. she braked hard and i wasnt watching and pulled me back out.

woke up the next day and couldn't move, managed to get to a osteopath and had a few sessions and was right as rain...untill i was a knob nd decided i wanted to play footy again to soon after a session and jumped up for a header and it all started again. its never been proper since. its got considerably worse after my last car crash ( me driving, cant blame that on me mum)

gna leave it for the time being, i cant afford the money for the oestopath when its my fault LOL

24 years old, and a fucked back. My mum has osteoperosis, but men don't get it. So only leads to lifting excessive weights and lying/nealing in awkward positions when working on cars. Doc says I got a perferated discs....urgh!!!!

I've suffered ever since a weight training injury. It comes and goes but it's now there more often than not.

M3Cosworth, I'll drop you a line as I work for O2 and I'm in slough a coupe of times a week.

Edited to say the Slough surgey is two minutes from our Brunel Way Office

yeah was off work for 5months last year with a prolapsed disc which was causing pains and numbness in the lower part of my right leg.Back to work now but still have alot of pain in my back and no feeling in my big toe on my right foot and pins and needles on my right lower leg.My back hurts mainly when I have been inactive like on my days off or if I have a lie in(normally get up for work at 3am so if I sleep any longer than 6am I can hardly walk)When it was at its worse I was poping 36 tablets a day for the pain so I totally sympathise with anyone who has a bad back

@ m3cosworth

What can a osteopath do about a Hernia Nuclei Pulposi????
I have one and it's killing me for almost a year now
Been to hospital, made MRI scans etc etc,but the surgeon does not want to operate me cos it's actually not bad enough, and i actually dont want surgery because of the risk with scar tissue becomming a problem for the nerve.
I have to take all day 3 x 600mg ibuprophen to kill the pain a bit in my leg and buttock

Any info is welcome
