long story... notebook has bluetooth built in... dell d420. but now its on xp it doesn't recognise the in built toshiba bluetooth 'bit'... all the drivers i cxan find seem to only work with vista rather than xp.... so i thought if i ve got to have a bluetooth dongle hanging out the back to pair to my phone i might as well have a usb modem instead.
i have a nokia e90 communicator for work....500meg a month limit.
was just thinking for £15 quid the usb modem would be easier, maybe quicker and less worry about going over the data limit....
maybe i ll try a bluetooth dongle in it with the phone first and see what its like.
majorly gutted the inbuilt bluetooth doesn't want to work. any thoughts on that jim? i know thats sort of up your street?

20K+ Super Poster.
the E90 will work perfect for this, it's HSDPA anyway! plug it in with the USB cable (bluetooth is limited speed anyway) fire up nokia PC suite, click the "connect to internet" button and you're away. 500mb is a lot for just the occasional browse
bluetooth driver are always a bit of a pain to find, can you not find them on the manufacturer's website? what model laptop is it, i'll have a look. it can DEFFO be fixed, just might take a bit of googling

I have this with T-mobile and its ok for me. It will never replace a dedicated home broadband connection as its just to slow, even on HSPDA. You then have monthly limits to watch or you can be billed big.

Three mobile broandband is high speed data network. So, I get d/l speeds of 2mbps.
I even get signal at sea a few miles from land!!! In my cabin!
And it's PAYG, so no line rental. Just buy a top up, convert it to BB data useage. I top up with say £100, then onnly convert what I need when I need it. Works well enough for me.

I use 3 too when I am out and about, have no issues and use £10 when i need it (PAYT) lasts 30days and get 1gb.
Rob, the XP drivers will be available for the D420 on the Dell website. I know as I have used them from there. If I was at work I could mail them to you, or upload them to my webspace so you could download them.

Harlow. Chelmsford postcode, NOT Greater London. I didn't say ~I didn't get 4G, infact I said I DID get 3G, and the point of saying I did was someone said it was slow. Yeah it ain't 2meg ADSL speed, but it's not particulary slow for an OTA connection. It's faster than my wifi connection!
