I know this is an old thread but need some advise on what engine to use in my mk2 Granada, it currently is on its 3rd 24v cossy v6 which pisses oil out of the bottom end, the first i cooked and the 2nd one leaked oil everywhere too, i'm thinking 2.9 12v as i have been told they are better low down than the 24v but what tuning options are there as i need to get my Granada up and running again but cheaply, the car is already wired for a 24v and they do look nicer especially with my chrome plenum but don't want to have to remove it again due to oil leaks, any suggestions guys? would love a YB but don't have that sort of money

If they don't leak they are fine

You seem to be fitting engines without checking them first

It wasn't at fitz mate , my boost engine failed the first time it was revved out after it was run in. I wouldn't touch any product of mikes now and hope no one else spends their money there and as you say once I have been to court I will tell the truth too

On a side note note, my old 2.9 tt made 253 bhp on the rollers, immense torque and sound, but ran out of puff at high revs. Put the engine in an xr4i and it killed the type 9 within 1000 miles!

Anyone have idea that what would be approximately max horsepower that 38/38 Weber carb would do with 2.8 12v Cologne engine?

i know its not a ford lump but a stock stage 1 tuned 2jz would be awesome, cheap, will run 400 hp forever.
it would also be cheaper in the long run as its just a stock engine, and a million times better than a cologne they are just shit engines imo.

i didnt think of that tbh

id have a zetec over a cologne any day, they are hateful engines, ive had 3 in capris and sierras and they are utter poop.

the sound track is nice though il say that and they make abit of low down torque, but the up top revving hp is rubbish imo.
cosworth v6 is the only answer i guess if wanting ford and v engine, then twin turbo it.

THE BIGGEST ISSUE OF THE V6 IS THE WEIGHT

bloody cap locks

you need much more suspension work to get it right than with the 4 pots it really does make a huge difference

if it was possible to drop in a different v6 lump there wouldn't be an issue and now you have all alloy v8's that will piss all over most 4 and 6 pots, it seems to be the way to go

they are heavy, but if compare cossie 4x4 kerbweight and that of a xr4x4 its not much different iirc.

but all the weight is over the front wheels which makes all the difference

been there done that with both and the v6 is a lot more noticable and runs much wider on the turns

The underrated cologne 12v is very strong. May you know the 2.9 capri video.
535 bhp at 21 psi all day long with stock parts like headgasket, pistons, rods, valves etc. But if it have to be a V6, then the 24v BOA IMO.

I've been thinking about supercharged 2.8 V6 (from XR4i Sierra), anybody ever supercharged one of those? I know there's lots of turbo ones but I'm interested about superchargers. It has stock compression ratio of 9.3:1, is this too high for supercharger with reasonably low boost?

sprintex made a supercharger kit for the 2.8 cologne engine, I have one to go on my zakspeed capri project

How much does those kits cost, are they still available? And what parts do they supply in the kit, surely something must be modified other than the addition of supercharger?

the kit is just a bolt on kit I have. I think it provides 5 psi of boost then uses a modded distributor for ignition retard, I havnt started fitting it yet so I cant help much, if it gets the old cologne above 200 hp then that's all I need

I would of used a zetec but atleast this way I have a low miles mint engine that will take the supercharger fine and I can concentrate on the supercharger conversion and bodykit rather than a total engine conversion.

hi!!
Sorry for being writing here again, i know, is a old post...

I 'me in Portugal, and i fitted in my 87 sierra a rare 2.8 EFI, 150hp standard, and... is not a bad engine, but i need more..

I already have a KN air filter (in the original box), LPG kit fully adjustable ( more power on LPG than Petrol ) special clutch and here is coming a LSD..

what can i do to extract more power from this engine? i know, BOA/BOB is the way to go, but here there is no cosie's at all

Proper stainless steel exhaust manifolds help alot, and so does hotter camshaft. For example Comp Cams 264 or maybe Pipercams 270, too hot cam is not good as Cologne engines aren't really designed to be revved hard. I've heard also that porting cylinder head and better carbuetor would work well with these engines.
