Default Cars getting black flagged on track for INDUCTION noise- What cars have?

As title really, just trying to gauge what it takes for that to happen.

Martins has I think, Mikes too? Harveys I think? Im not sure TBH, just trying to work out what sort of spec, boost, whatever gives so much induction noise even that trips the noise meters.

And was it deffo induction noise?

Your shitting me?

But ive seen a lot more mental cars at Coombe etc have no issues, even Evo8s, lol.

Is this a Donny only thing or do people have induction noise type black flags at other tracks too?

At this rate you just wont have a prayer of going on track with big bhp regardless apart from no noise limit days.

Wrap the faster cars in soundproofed cotton wool. Problem solved. Either that or do track days in Scotland, no-one seems to care up here.

Get a pipe for the exhaust pointing down, Or a backbox like what dingy has put on.

Can only suggest a box for the filter though, as said Track days seem to be getting harsher every year

yeah he did once !

to be fair i dont think the noise was the main reason i think it was more to do with the fact we were in the novice group and the way/speed we was arriving behind people !

Can we keep it on the subject I wrote in CAPITAL LETTERS in the title please!

Every cunt knows, and its easily possible, how to have a quiet but unrestrictive exhaust, if you fail for that, tough ass, but quiet induction seems to be a whole new, and totally gay, state of affairs...

Who deffo has?
And at what tracks?

I don't see how you could possibly tell which one triggers it, unless you were watching the meter as the car went past and the Db shot up once the car went past the mike (exhaust), or just before (induction) ??

At Donno I've seen loads of NA cars that sound REALLY loud, but don't get black flagged, yet the turbo cars seem much quieter always do.

I agree with the n/a cars thing, seen that loads.
Seems like the low pitched turbo noises trip noise meters at sounds which to us seem way quieter than the screaming n/a lump makes.

But the induction noise thing, seen it mentioned loads, but guess nobody can be sure its ever that?

i really dont see how you can get an induction noise LOUDER than the exhaust?

i mean ive heard some loud cars, but not like 100+db loud!

are you SURE its not exhausts theyre getting done for? screamers etc.?

Cars like Martins etc, when they deliberatly got mega quiet exhausts made, and ive heard over and over, when they still get black flagged, that it was the induction noise instead.

If thats true or not, who knows, I dont, hence this thread.

it cant be a bit of all as we're talking about noise here. it doesnt all add together to make it louder

it's done on the induction side in the same way as the exhaust side on most production cars in the world

My point is, do we NEED to, and what stage are you at when your induction noise is that loud its tripping noise meters.

Stav......I got warned at Bedford in February for induction noise in my Clio 172 - told me to ease off past the noise meters as they knew it was me but cudnt officially pin it on me as I always went past them on full chat with a group of other cars!!

My exhaust got measured at 93db static approx 4500rpm.

And they were 100% sure it was induction rather than exhaust? Though n/a induction noise can be pretty bloody loud.

On turbo cars sucking like a mutherfucker, i dont recall any with anything other than standard exhausts having louder induction noise than exhaust!

I'd have thought induction noise would on be an issue on NA cars? Ones running throttlebodies etc as they have some induction note off them?

Yup...convinced - I was running a foam ITG induction filter rather than a standard air box & I have to admit it was loud - sounded awesome though!!! LOL Not sure how I'm going to cope when I fit my throttle bodies - think there'll be some airbox experimentation going on!!

Ok, deffo on n/a cars then, so lets get back to turbo cars.

Just trying to see whats going to be ok and whats going to be too much, as i dont want to do something then have to pay more to make it quieter, but dont spend money and add complexity by making it quieter for nothing.

I suppose the induction note is audiable on a turbo car, but i can't see how it would be loud enough to get you black flagged? Maybe 'chatter'? it can be loud and i suppose you could class that as the induction side of things?

Problem with throttle bodies is they drone, and thats what makes it louder.

whilst i cant remember exactly how it works (and i never actually finished A level physics... lol) i im pretty sure the conculsion you're coming to of 1+1=2 is not correct

loudness is directly proportional to amplitude
i.e L α a

Wheras intensity is prototional to the square of the amplitude
i.e I α a˛

1) L= ka ------> therefore a=L/k
2) I = ka˛
Substituting a in 1) into 2) we get
I = k (L/k)˛
I = k * (L˛ / k˛)
I = L˛ / k
So this means that intensity is inversly proportional the the square of the loudness i. e. I α 1/L˛

α - proportionality sign
k- constant ( inserted to get rid of the proportionality sign)

Hope this helps!
