Default AVG or Windows Defender?

I have both, but both seem to be quite heavy on system resources, so I was going to get rid of one of them. Which is best? Or am I better to keep them both?

Also, is there a good piece of software or other method of tidying up the processes that are running? I have almost 60 processes running right now and several that are over 30,000k memory usage (some as high as 70,000k). I know that most of these are needed, but maybe some aren't?

If your after antivirus get Avast which is free and better than AVG + use less resources.

Best bet for process is just use windows task manager, ok you probably wont know what half of them are, but google the names and it will tell what it is and if you actually need it or not.
Some of them you wont need to google because its blatantly obvious what the process is, like MSN for example or yahoo etc, can take 30mins or so but once its done its done

Keep them both. With 1gig memory C you will be alright.

they only take about 10k - 15k of it anyway!
