Default Small car recommendations

Hi,

looking at getting a small car for the wife for running around, doing the school run etc..

Preferably smaller than 1300cc and definately petrol but other than that not sure.

I've got about £4k to spend so what would you buy and why ?
Anything I should avoid ?

Many thanks

Good call, or Polo 1.2 maybe.
I know you say petrol, but mate has a 1.3 cdti corsa (fiat engine so a little cracker) really nippy and pisses 60mpg, would do 70+ driven accordingly.
Safer in an accident diesel too.

my mums got a fiesta 1.25 on an 06 plate, it's a lovely little car with loads of toys. i wouldn't have one myself cos it's too small (says he who borrows his wife's Puma ) but theyre perfect for round town runabouts

Kia Picanrosjbshdhbaj something or other! Hired one last week in Spain, did like 500 miles on half a tank of fuel, and gave it death everywhere I went. Could park the little runt anywhere too!

arent they the 3 cylinder ones that sound like a diesel?

I'd never touch a Vauxhall. Had a new Astra for a week, and a new Vectra for about 3 days at my last job before my company car arrived. they were both horrible...urgh. Both diesel's (which i like) but not economical in the slightest. 1.7 Astra was doing 35mpg, and the 1.9 Vectra was doing about 30. Modern diesels my ass

Dont even get me started on the interiors.....yuckkkkkkk

i'm pretty sure the 1.25 is a Duratec 16v

The 1.4TDCi isn't bad either and surprisingly pokey for a small engine
