Default MX-5.....any good?

Just wondering for a bit of weekend fun if MX-5 Mazda's are any good? Ive never driven one but have a few quid to spend on a weekend toy, well not much but enough to buy an early MX-5. I remember them getting good reports back in the early 90's.

It’s a fun little car. I’ve just bought my wife one, the 2L sport roadster with 6 speed box, and pick up on 1st Sept on a 58 plate. The suspension setup isn’t too bad either.

I had a mk1 1.6, great fun little car that handled extremely well, even better once the -25mm lowering springs were put on.
Seriously tempted to get another one

Great cars but the early ones seem to have a real hair-dresser/gay image about them which is a shame.
The new ones look a bit more beefy.

If I were in a rwd sporty 2 seater mood though I'd probably just get an old Midget and tune up/replace the lump.

I test drove the 1.8 and 2.0, and found the 1.8 a little underpowered. The 2.0 is better in my opinion.

Only driven the original car but have to say it was superb fun. Saddly has a very gay image so you can't own one as a bloke. Nothing to stop you buying it for the wife and then borrowing it (a lot).

Ex Missus had one and it was probably the best handling car (std) I have driven. I would rather be seen in an MX-5 than a sapphire cossie or RS Turbo, people say about the gay image etc.. dont forget the boy racer image of all RS Cars.

We had a 1.6 Mk2.5 and other than the yearly service, not a single penny was spent on it. It went through every MOT without issue. I would go for the Mk2 or 2.5 if you can as the Mk1 are getting a bit tired now.

my ex had one, and used to borrow it all the time, great fun, bit underpowered but plenty sideways action, just beware of the abuse you will get from friends, and also total strangers in the street

An image of being driven by a man with skintight wife beater on, bleach blonde hair, and cum dripping out of his anus.

Wife had a 1.6 Eunos for a couple of years. Was nice little car, but the engine was surprisingly characterless for such a fun car. Just don't roll it! The windscreen folds flat as do the supposed roll hoops built into the seats.

Is that true for the newer models? I did hear that about the older ones.

Obviously not talking from experience, just theory, as a sensible car magazine editor would never ever do that. Honest.

Or roll a Audi Quattro

Until cars are rollable while chattin the biggun on a car forum, nobody here is in danger

Never driven one but heard only good things about them in terms of drivability and fun...pretty much what most on here are saying.

Although I am not a fun of convertables just make sure yours is as the only way a man of your size is going to get in one is with the roof off and the windows down. LOL
