Default Fao People Who know Traffic laws? Metpol?

Hi, bit silly this morning and the result was a person with a police badge said he's going to report me

I've tried to draw out what I did as i'm not 100% I was wrong or even what is going to happen to me?

He didn't pull me over just stopped at the side and said "i've got your reg and i'm reporting you"

Yes i'm bad at paint

I'm the black rectangle the mazda 6 (blue rectangle) parked next to me is a male and a female copper not in uniform just plain white shirts

Point 1. We we're a the junction both lanes are straight on but the one with the coppers in can go left aswell. Lights change she set's off pretty quickly but I then over take before getting to the van parked in the road, she did have to break for the van but I was infront of them.

Point 2. You can see how they had to stop as it was blocking the road.

Am I in the shit?

The male copper (passenger) didn't give me any documentation or anything, just got the woman to stop at the side of me and he flashed his badge saying I was trying to force them into the side of the van, I said no I wasn't and he then replied with "i've got your reg and i'm reporting you"

Help please!!
yes it's not been a good day today at all

So, according to them, you should have stopped to let them overtake the van?

Well the road goes from 2 lanes at the light into one on the other side (see my awesome lines)

We we're level at the point at which it turns into one lane (infact I was slightly ahead)

Just worried me ya know

thanks Arch I was trying to remember your name for the topic title but I kept thinking you were called Aduz

They obviously weren't looking where the fuck they were going, one of the 5 basic rules of advanced driving is seeing the big picture, i.e. look as far in the distance as you can. Anyway, they can't do anything so i wouldn't worry about it.

if the van was in their lane then they have to indicate to pull out into the next lane when it is clear to do so, Im not aware of any reason why you should give way to them? they just booted it off the lights in the hope they would get out in front and got pissed when you didnt let them.

lesson 1 : cops are arseholes

you were on the correct side of them to be overtaking them anyway, as they were coming out round the van IMHO they should have indicated to do so, and slowed down and waited for a gap.

Off duty means exactly that mate, there was a case back in the day that If a officer of the law was traveling to his station to commence work that he was actually on duty, but I was talking to a couple who were emigrating to the NZ police force from the UK and he was saying that he was badly hurt on his way to work on a bicycle, and due to him being 'at work' got a massive payout (so he said).....

Not long after his case, they changed their policies!

So I wouldn't worry about it mate, I'd had the same doen to me on the M1, he came speeding onto the motorway, and tried to cut across to the fast lane..........But my van had other ideas!

After I stopped winding him up, and let him over, he started waving his warrant card at me.

I just laughed at him!

tbh I know a couple who are pretty good about most things. you have just summed up the problem with your post tho, they should be proffessional and not get pissed when they get caught out. they exist to uphold the law, not use it in a personal vendetta with every person who pisses them off.

Indeed, how they expect anyone to respect them when so many of them going around acting like total CUNTS who think they are special just cause they failed their gcse's and applied to the police for a job is beyond me!

If it goes to court, ill put MONEY the copper lies about what really happened.

Id be tempted to nip it in the bud right now with a trip to the cop shop.

You were NOT given a Notice of Intended Prosecution, not even a verbal one, he merely said he was going to report you, that counts for utterly fuck all.

They have two weeks to issue you an NIP, either written or verbal, if they dont do so then you can NOT be taken to court.

Thats my understanding, but check with a lawyer if you are really bothered.

I personally would have just laughed in his face and told him to arrest me or shut up and then drove off, he's talking absolute shite IMHO

Lines between lanes, they wanted to cross them, down to them to find room - obstruction is in their lane.
THEY had to give way to YOU, simple.
I often block people like this if they haven't read the road ahead or don't indicate etc etc.

Edit/ Why not look in a highway code mate.

I think Arch is the person to answer this as he is traffic, but personally I wouldnt worry about it.

First rule of advanced driving is to anticipate.... I think anyone who is a semi decent driver would have seen that van and prepared their manoeuvre well in advance without the need to hit there brakes etc.

As for being off or on duty with regards to officers travelling to and from work.. Well If I have an accident going to or from work then it will be classed as an injury on duty. The one thing that applies is that it has to be a direct route to and from... So if I went back to Essex via landsEnd then they would tell me to go forth and multiply
