Default Some pics and vids from RWYB (Not Ford)

Went to Santa Pod at the weekend to see if i could improve on my previous best of 13.5@105, which aint bad for a diesel lol.

This is a vid of my first run of the day, against a re-mapped 305bhp vectra VXR Turbo. Camera mounted in his car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i0FIyuow7E

I ran a 13.7@105, so not a bad start to the day

I ran against him again with the same result.

I then ran against my mates stock 1.8turbo ibiza cupra with the camera mounted in his car.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBF3LenCXRM

Same again a 13.7.

Then I ran a couple of 13.5's

Then i wanted to race this VXR8 Supercharged 560bhp monster.

BEAT HIM and recorded my best time ever

was well chuffed with my 13.3@105.75mph.

I called it day after that, it was lunchtime and had to get home. The Supercharged VXR8 later that day posted a 13.28. So just beating me. But i think if i had stayed i could have run quicker.

A question for the guys who regularly drag, would i get a couple of tenths by ditching the 19" in favour of 17"s?

Thanks

Well done fella !! Especially for a Derv !!

Yeah your'd defo run a quicker time wit smaller rims, only REALLY need to change the driven wheels.

There's plenty of other things you can do !! Some of which I was told by some propa drag enthusiasts (spelling), namely Francis Garcia who Mike'll know well & also Martin Arnold who's been goin for like EVER !!

I've been swarn to secrecy tho. But I STILL can't run a decent time @ pod !!

Agreed totally, rev engine whilist holding the break, release brake, keep throttle pressed for 13 seconds, release.

not exactly masses of skill required

Yep.

Bit like me spending all day at the Pod in the Cayenne trying to do faster times.

NOT GONNA HAPPEN when your not actually in control of the car!

I suppose I could see if I could improve my times to drink a cup of coffee in comfort faster whilst going up the strip and watching Richard and Judy on the TV?

and he didn't even blank out the manaro plate, so what ever reason people or the person in question blank plates out it obviously doesn't apply to the manaro.

Surely this thread is more about the cars achievement and not the input the driver has had?
It's a diesel doing low 13's, think that's impressive and shows how diesels have come on, largely thanks to bmw and the original 3.0 diesel.

How?

Lowering the back seats to lower the COG and increase traction of the line perhaps....

Trying different launching techniques. Shifting at different times.

CallyT, i have a friend with a tuned E46 M3, we had a run coupla monday nights ago and i pulled on him a beaut. He was impressed with the mapped 335d!

The performance is awesome. No doubting that... and I would agree with you... IF he had done one run...

but this is at least the 3rd or 4th time he has done a RWYB and he does loads of runs everytime..

Like he is going to suddenly dip into the 11's once he gets that tricky launch sorted... or that difficult 2nd to 3rd change!

Ill have to look at the graphs mate. Went on a Dyno Dynamics and got 344bhp and 530ibs. Max power i think is at 4700rpm. Pulls hard to the redline 5k LOL

LOL

hmmm not an expert but e46 m3 would produce power all the way to 7-8k..... low to mid end peak power and torque shouldn't be pulling on a m3

Mate forget where it makes power. My friend with this particular M3 has not beaten a 13.5 so slower than me anyhow. Away from the strip and rolling start, im pulling away at over 100mph.

Just because it dont rev, dont make it slow. Just look at the time

Agreed, FAST car if its doing mid 13s.

M3 should be able to better that, but isnt press and go, so requires a bit more talents to do so.

I agree its harder to get a good drag time with an M3. But mine is easy to launch but not good at it. Short first gear, lack of LSD. its better rolling start, which it pulls a gap on E46 M3'S and left my friends E36 M3 trailing behind.

I would like a crack at the 12's but im thinking ill need LSD and 17"s

This the E92 or whatever Chip?
Can't see a stock E46 M3 beating this 1/4 mile time, my E36 would just get into 13's with a good run, E46 isn't much greater power to weight.
Not sure a good time for these on 1/4 mile though.

I agree mate, Ive raced lots of e36 m3's on the quarter and E46 M3's and E39 M5's and beaten them all. People cant really say the 335d is slow can they lol.

Ive got friends with these cars too. Its great suprising people. There was a young lad there in a 2.0 corsa doing mid 15's at 90mph, he wanted a race cuz he beats ''318's''. I said im doing mid 13's and he said ''what in a diesel'' LOL.

I LOVE drag racing and, got addicted getting my old XR2 quicker, but have to totally agree with Porkie.

Best bit of drag racing is bettering your time, and trying hard to get the perfect launch etc...

Or for Carl proving what a diesel can do, and beating fast petrol cars.
We're not all aiming for same goals.

Get some sticky smaller tyres on it, and lose a bit of weight from it, and it would get into the 12s easily if thats your goal.

Would start not to be a very nice car once you rip out the comfy seats, chip off all the sound deadening and remove the aircon etc though.

I bet you could do 11s in that car if you spent a week with an angle grinder and a few mates, lol
