What is the purpose of this??? It's hooked up to some "eco" named small cylinder beside the brake reservoir, then goes into a breather after that, i think it just comes from the tank, can i just leave it open at the back of the car and forget about running a new hose under the car to the front???

Yeah i think it must be!
I have a supply & return pipe AND this one too.
The pipe comes from the tank, under the car, along the bulkhead and stops beside the brake fluid reservoir where it goes into a rubber pipe and into this small round canister about an inch long.

Yours will be a green top saff
Its fitted in order to meet US 83 regs and part of this is that no emmisions should escape from the fuel tank, the tanks are sealed and vent instead through a carbon cannister which itself links to the kidney box on the side of the engine so any fumes are kept within the inlet side of the engine and burned up in the cylinders rather than venting to atmosphere
