popped down to donnington on sunday, not been to an rs show since 1995,where is everyone. The show's in the 90's were absolutely packed with entrants traders and spectators. So sad the decline of the mighty ford RS scene.

used to take a fleet of cars and do a stand ginge, running turbosystems, running the thundersaloon rs500's,building and repairing customers cars, and bringing up a family etc was too much for me, not enough hours in a day and days in a week. All you customers were responsible for my divorce after 19 years of marriage lol

i think the whole rs scene doesnt have that much to offer these days as it used to in the early 90's when i first started going, there was a great atmosphere with loads of amazing cars now there just seems to be ok 1's.I hadnt been for 5 years and it just seems lifeless

Must be just me then cos i had a really good day yesterday, ok it might not be as busy as it was but thats surely because lots of the cars have been broken for bits etc and Ford havent exactly pushed the RS marque in recent years have they?
I enjoyed it, the weather was a bonus too!!

its always going to be alot more busier back in 95.. the cars were still fairly new.
You only have to notice the amount of RS's you see on the road these days.. very few. End of the day, they are old hat now, and most have either been crashed, or rotted away unfortunately..
Big up the HONDA crew...

How can u compare with 1995 ? its 13 years since - theres a load of things happened since to divert peoples interests like all day shopping, 50 inch tellys, PS3s, Sky etc...why would u want to tramp around a field in wanky summer weather

To be fair it doesn't seem as busy as last time i went which was probably about 3 years ago. But like said above, there are many better things to do than risk getting piss wet through looking at cars if the weather forecast looks bad.

Donnington
As i've only been a RS member for the past 3 years i can,t really comment on the Glory Years of the 90'S,but still loved the cars. I still felt it was a good show,a bit quiet on the Trade Stands but still a good turn out by all the Local Groups. Everybody has a different opinion as to why people arn't going to the show's anymore: weather crap, fewer car on the road these days, the cost of things, bad organisation and the list goes on.. I think it was a bit quiet this year as some people felt that last years National Day at Rockingham was basically Crap.. Again we all have our own thoughts to this. Also it would have been good if the RS Owners Club could have arange for the new RS Focus to be at Donny for everyone to see, at the end of the day alot of RS Guys will being going out there and buying one,its not as if they didn't have enough time to Try and get this sorted out, maybe they did i don't know but why then walk around with green t-shirts on with "RS bad boys back" when it wasn't.... It was in Russia?? As a newbie to all this at the moment it hasn't put me off and i will carry one going to the show's just as long as the car keeps going....

i also said this yesterday, my first Nat Day was 2005 and it was absolutely heaving, this year it seemed so quiet compared to the 1st year i went.
I think a combination of ebay ruining proper business along with the RS' getting older and people going elsewhere for their kicks means the dramatic decline of the RSOC shows, its only going to get worse year after year unless Ford pull something spectacular out within the next couple of years

You have to think. Since then there has been ONE new RS model. So its not really enough to bring in new faces, so a lot of old faces go, but a lot of old dont as they have moved on!
RSOC nat day is more like a big classic ford show now!

I enjoyed the day but i think it was quiet too. I went to the national day at donnington in 2006 and i thought it was alot busier then that this year. Alot of people have moved on to other makes of cars. I just hope the shows dont get any worse. I drove from durham services and i seen a few rs.s on the way down. I seen more on the way home too.

I thought yesterday was busy, if you compare it too 2007 their were about 4-5 times the people their.
I have been going since 1997 give or take a few shows but simple issues make it go quieter.
- Lack of sales stands due to internet etc
- Not as many people due to the lack of RS cars being made and at the rate they get broken
- The price of fuel
- The shows only 2 weeks after Ford fair
- Bitching about club rules

Happily retired
First went in 1996 & loved it, very big show then. Attended every year up to 2004 by which time it was getting boring & unless you wanted to buy parts a complete waste of time. Cant say I will never go again but it seems unlikely unless Mark asks for my car to be there. The RSOC & its ND are a spent force im afraid.
