Default Gearbox question!

What would cause gearbox oil to spill out of the fill up? It would seem quite a bit of oil has come up and out of the fill up pipe on my Nissan Primastar van(same as vivaro) i know these vans suffer with gearbox issues so iam paranoid.

The van has recently had a clutch fitted and been serviced so my only thought is that they over filled the oil, plus this was the first long run its been on(200 odd miles)!

Well what it was is ive only just bought the van. Gearbox seems sound smooth changes etc, linkage is a bit sloppy but not the end of the world.

It has a little like push in cap on top of the pipe and when i noticed it dripping i checked it and it was "frothy" around the cap and the oil was sat on top of the box, but no signs of it leaking from the driveshafts and flicking up etc.

Does anyone know how much oil the box should hold? Il drain then refil tomorrow to check!

Thanks.

if gear change is poor then will prob need new cables,if you look on the gearbox on the diff on the nearside theres a level plug to chech and top up if needed(its a square one).the oil will be frothy if its just been driven...to be honest if there was a prob with the gearbox you'd have some nasty noises from it.they hold between 2-2.5 litres but just fill up till it runs out of than plug on the diff mate
