Default anyone had experience on bike carbs instead of 45s?

been toying with the idea of bike carbs on a pinto.

ive heard r1s and zx9 are good carbs is there any specific year to get them from as there seem to be so much difference?
do bike carbs bring good power

i made some 750 gsxr throttle bodies fit my old mk6 escort, they were 42mm and tapered to about 38mm i think.

i can measure these if like and let you know. provided i can find them in the garage lol
i dont think they are much if any smaller tbh.

iirc 40s are best for a 2.0l? and 45's are too much?

i may be wrong tho, it was a good 3/4 years ago since i was dabbling in carbs lol

a mate had 45's on a 205 mi16 engine, and to get the most of them he had to rev it to to almost 8k lol

roosie, i used gsxr 750 ones as there are all individual, so you can space them to exactly what you need etc.

i can post some pics of what i done if you like?

Bike carbs work great on the pinto, been done loads in kit cars Try www.locostbuilders.co.uk or www.ppcmag.co.uk think ppc is down at the minute though.

Try www.Boggbros.co.uk they do manifolds for fitting bike carbs to car engines pinto/zetec etc.

i think you guys are missing the point slightly here, a quick description
40's - is the maximum choke size the carb will take
45's - same a gain but 45mm max chock etc etc

this doesn not mean you will be running a 40mm choke, or a 45mm in 45's

just for a little info i had a nasp cosworth in one of my old cars and ran that on 48's but the choke size was 46mm.

the thing with bike carbs are that alot of them have variable venturi's giving better fuel control over more load area than a fixed venturi, variable is more precise, you dont get that with the traditional 40's etc.
go with the bike carbs.

Just get the bandit ones they will be fine, although piston size much larger on pinto(than bike) air speed is also a lot slower due to lower revs.
40's/45's are normally used at a maximum of 80% choke to body size, that is what I had on my yamaha engine celica.
Carbs are like dinosaurs compared with throttle bodies off bikes as these are fuel injected, just no comparison.
Though you will have to buy another ecu to run them(and ignition), unless you have one of the three maps for the escort and others for cossie, then just swap ecu from one car to another and flick map switch.

Just bung on some TB's, then get another map for the other engine on the same ecu, normal map is 1, but can be any number 1/2/3, so have two other spare ones for mapping on pinto, way cheaper than another ecu, and straight swap with 1 connector.

I got mine off a YZF1000,(almost the same as r1's) almost brand new for 50 quid. I made the manifold and got it welded for another 70.
Its 42mm and tapered to about 38mm. (igntion only ecu-100)

my mates running ZZ1200, (can't remember exact model), they are tapered down to 41mm.
He paid to buy decent stuff (he thought were cheap)
carbs 120
Manifold-130
ECU- 600.
He likes spending money. I don't-I'm tight.
