Default MK2 Escort Vs EVO

Well....

This is a comparison....

Evo has many plus sides.....power everything and practically drives its self....easy to drove fast and make any driver pretty fast.

Escort is hard as fuck to drive yet has more of the thrill than the evo and nothing is power assisted.

Oversteer on the evo is weird.....maybe the active yawn needs scrapping...

Oversteer on the escort is awesome...

Grip on evo is unbelievable....better than any 4x4 car i have drivin.. why people bother with escort cossies is beyond me.

Grip on escort is well....ok at 1 bar LOL....

I will continue with this thread as i do more to both...

Escort is getting some big mods as is the evo in the next few months

I would raher go round the track sideways in a mk 2 escort and get people thinking that you can drive rather than people knowing that the evo is driving for you, cause most people know that the technology on the evos help you drive better.

The thing is, an Evo is pretty much there out of the box, to sort an Escort to handle to a similar level takes a LOT of time and effort, but the rewards are HUGE when done properly (just ask Ben which he prefers, his 450bhp Evo VII or his (handling sorted) 360bhp Escort Cosworth ).

I am not saying its not possible mike far from it...

Evo is lighter and has much more to offer.....

If its like this out the box then just think what its capable of......

i would much have to work at getting a car to drift or handle round a corner then have the car do it for me. evo`s have become to cold and to the point where even a 12 year old can drive them.

And for the record glennshute - i will never not have the mk2 cause nothing puts a smile on my face like that does...

Its not about ford vs jap chip on your shoulder its about the comparision of the old school vs semi new school.....thats all.

Dingle,

Get yourself an RS Diff fitted fella, you'll love the way it drives and feels then AND if you're going to be pushing BIG bhp in it as you've said in the future, it'll probably shit it's self soon enough..RS Box is awesome too, the car will max out at about 140 then though, but it'll get there quick as fook, fantastic for sprinting etc..

The lession that we need to learn is:

4WD = Boring, easy, ect..

Rwd = Fun, hooligan style, drifting, rolling burnouts, ect!! Proper man's car.

People bother with Escort Cossies because that's the car they WANT to own... Irrespective of whether other cars handle better or not.

For me I'd love an escort cossie but they just don't make financial sense compared to an Evo 6. You'll get a decent 6 for a lot less than even a tired example of an escort and it'll run rings round it.

I always promised myself an escort cosworth but when I had the money to buy one I couldn't bring myself to do it. Unless I suddenly win the lottery or something (ie making it part of a collection) I can't imagine owning one now.

And to Dingy, RS diff setup is the way to go if you want more input in the cornering. I personally find AYC quite strange sometimes, can try and bite you. My evo 6 RSX was a great drive. The later evos are a step up again in the handling stakes, my mates 8 used to be scarey how it used to go round fast bends (I'm gald he sold it)

I wanted a car that didn't need much modding to make it handle dave - always wanted an escort but it would double in price to make it like the car i got for the money....

Hence the purchase

Still prefere the mk2 to be honest....much more fun

I'd vote for the mk2 scort any day.
The evo is boring because its so good out of the box imo.

I recon the escort would take more skill to drive well (although I'm sure folk will disagree).

Question

lets face it both great cars years apart, every cars different every person is too,but if the evo had came out 30 yrs ago,and they just brought out a 08 mk2 escort people would say it was pants compared to the 30yr old evo.

LOL

twisting.....

As in price vs performace and handling....

Evo 6 is up to half the price than an escort cossie and out the box its a better car.....

So its beyond me why people buy an escort cosworth over an evo for cost and driveability vs personal wants...

is that better for you ?

My experience of Mk2 Escorts is hazy now ( owned 3, 2 Rs2s and a 1.6 x-flow engined one )
and my time of EVOs is very brief ( EVO 6 RS drive ) so I'm not judging one way or the other but it did amuse me that after all the hi-tech stuff Colin McRae drove, he really seemed to love that Mk2 with the Millington he had built.......old but with a modern slant

I've not really pushed the car to the absolute limit yet, but i quite like the active yaw.

It's not good for any slight throttle adjustment though mid corner, but it definitely feels like it's keeping the car nice and tight through corners.

I can't imagine how the Escort feels to drive in comparison though, must be hard work

totally agree, but also, no matter how good a car is. As soon as a computer does the driving for you, you loose the whole raw experience. Id take a fiesta over an evo, or a skyline, audi, bmw....anything that asks me to push a button to go fast is for people who are to scared to drive proper monsters

Well to be blunt....

you are talking shite mate!!!!

An M3 CSL or an RS4 or a GTR or any Evo are far far far more rewarding than a slightly modded FWD Fiesta on track! any they are ALOT faster!

Really winds me up when people start saying about buttons and the car doing the work etc etc... WHEN THEY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER OF HOW THE CARS ACTUALLY BEHAVE!!!!

and if you would REALLY rather take a Fiesta over say a CSL or a new Nissan GTR... (that has LOTS of buttons) then you need shooting!

I'd knock MOST if not ALL Fords on the head for the new GTR! Staggeringly good car!

err, comparing them to a fwd slow car, is a little childish.

maybe i dont have experience like you, but you wont change my opinion...im always dissapointed by cars i expected to excite me and they just dont, becuase when i want to do something specific, sometimes they just wont let me. I will admit that very often, when i do have the oppurtunity to drive something fast, its often for a short time so i dont have the chance to get used to them very much.

in the old cossie vs evo debate, i can sum it up in one word..."RAW"

cossies are, and evos arnt.

there are very few cars that give the whole raw feeling like a cossie does, and thats what im addicted to, the noise, smell, feeling of a good cossie is almost unbeatable imo.

doesnt mean the other cars arnt good, but ive never driven a car that gives me a buzz like a cossie, and i have driven lots of cars

its very weird, and annoying id love a new car, but brain says no
