Only once since WW2 has a 3rd one seemed likely that was the Cuban crisis in 1962, that was hairy cos at the time they were closely matched & the cold war at its height.
The Amercians told them what would happen if their ships crossed a certain line & the Russians sailed up to it & then pissed off back to their own country taking their missiles with them. The Russians are not the Power they were then & has seen their regime fall apart since those days. Wait a few years till the Chinese start to flex their muscle thats the next biggie, but hopefully I will be long gone.

They was going to start WW3 because they thought we was not a powerful enough force. But they seen backed down once they heard about Rod Tarry's Sierra.
