Thats the A628, i know the woodhead well and thats definatly MPH! Although a couple of the overtakes 'looked' bad, the video looks worse than it is as you can see much more than the video implies. Still a couple of dodgy ones though, especially with the donkey infront braking at the side of the lorry after the other ones committed himself to the overtake.

Regarding the actual speed though, thats not actually 'that' dangerous on that stretch of road. Well ok it is dangerous but looks worse on camera than it would be in real life imo. Noitce how he knows the road well and lets off/brakes before he gets to the layby.

The thing is with high speed bikes, most average car drivers will see that as a real task and very dangerous as a car has to maintain a high speed for MUCH longer than a bike does. On a bike you can go from 100 to 170 and back down to 100 or less in a few seconds, so its actually 'dangerous' for a much shorter period and cannot be compared to driving a car at 176mph imo.

but this was done on a local dual carrigeway , eairly eve, barely any traffic whatsoever , i mean i didnt over take a single thing i 2 miles !!

but having ridden alot of bikes ,

i genuinely feel 120 on a bike dosent feel that quick , i used to do it on my ninja without even crouching ,

but 176 did lol

and im sure jacko got a wee bit more out of it lol .............

time and place for stupid speeds imo ,

beef
Dont forget that the digital speedo's on the gixer's (and most digital speedos at that), are actaully around 10% out so the 176 you did was probably a true 160 roughly. Still quick though.

I agree though 120 doesnt feel all that quick, and 50 on the local duals seems like your doing 20.

Totally MPH.

Without a shadow....

Some silly overtakes, and faster than I'd have been going on my own bike that's for sure given the wet stuff!

Awesome video - he certainly chucks that around!

The near high side at 1.11 ish was pretty mad as well!

Ridden properly, bikes like that have got to be virtually untouchable

I reckon he must have a much bigger than standard rear sprocket to get the speedo reading that speed. My mate has a gsxr with a 57 tooth rear sprocket which he can get to say 186mph on the speedo everytime he goes out when in reality it actually only reaches a top speed of 117mph!
What the hell are you on about?! Who would own an R1 and change the sprockets so it tops out at 117mph!

Have you ever ridden a bike? Thats how fast they reach top speed - a standard gixxer thou does 186mph on a standard sprocket - if your mates changed his sprocket to limit the speed to 117mph he should sell the bike as he's obviously a pussy! ha ha

Been riding just over 9 years since the day i turned 16, have owned loads of bikes (tzr 125, fzr 400, rvf400, r6, 748, gixxers, sp2 to name some) and done loads of trackdays.
I didnt say anyone would make an r1 top out at 117mph, im just trying to point out what effect changing the gearing can do to the speed of a bike, i find it hard to believe someone could top a bike out in those conditions. And as for my mate "limiting" the speed to 117mph he has changed his gearing to be able to pull slow speed wheelies as he's trying to learn circle wheelies atm, and i would also not consider him a pussy - scraping the tail unit on the floor when wheelying, feet over the handlebar wheelies, 180 degree stoppies, standing on the tank, skiing along behind the back of the bike (not my idea of a pussy.) Also has a standard gixxer 1000 for trackdays and road use aswell although i think he's only toped it out at 185mph as opposed to 186mph so maybe he is a pussy after all lol.

Yeah the bike defintly does suffer a bit when you try that sort of stuff - hence the reason for him needing two bikes, his stunt gixer is now mainly held together with cable ties and gaffer tape lol
