The process of widening steel wheels used to be popular years ago - banding, I think they called it.

It died out fairly quickly, though I can't remember if it became illegal because of the number of cases of the welding failing, or if everyone just got over it.

i really want to get my steels on the escort banded but im having the same issue!

they are only 13's
and im a bit begrudged to pay 300 for an extra 1.5"

i might as well buy some minilights for that price!!

If you want 13s, youd be a fool to get them banded.

Weller do 13in steels for about 50quid each.

From normal boring sizes to mental widths and offsets like I had on my Volvo...

No, they are made like that.

The difference is these are made like that, widened ones, suprisingly, are standard ones off whatever car, cut and widened.

Other difference is you get ripped off in the UK for banding steels, they charge a fortune, well the people who are deffo good at it are. Like said, cheaper to send to the place in Holland!

Off the shelf ones in UK (ie Wellers) only come in 13s tho, but all kinds of widths and offsets tho.

Can get bigger aftermarket cool steels from the states for fuck all tho.

The original Morris Minor was banded from the factory.

When the first prototypes were built the cars had split-windscreens and the factory decided the cars looked too narrow so they redesigned them and that's why they have the raised section in the centre of the bonnet.
