Yes, yes and mine was fine at 600hp. Others have not been so lucky though.

Paul,
IMO, it is not a gearbox for your lovely car . Too noisey, not nice to drive unless max attack and a bit hit and miss - fuck up a gear-change and it will cost you dearly .

Its not that I need one at the moment.. I have the DPE box with straight cut 2nd and 3rd
I saw someone had a 6speed R&D and wondered if the 6th gear would be handy with 3.9 diffs. but didn't want a dogbox. So that's that idea screwed

You're also forgetting the ratios . Most R&D's off the rally / race boys use a 1:1 6th gear, so like your current 4th gear is at the moment - would be lively , but what ever your maximum speed currently is in 4th gear on the DPE box, would be your maximum in 6th with the R&D, unless it was a 0.82 6th gear (which isn't the norm).

Mike you know how to kick a man whilst he is down

TBH if I blow the DPE I will seriously consider the skyline route.

Martin the figure of Ł10k floats around a lot when the skyline boxes are mentioned, is this price inclusive of a OS Giken gearbox and all the bits and pieces drive in drive out fitted?

It's just a smidge over this for the parts, so I think you looking at just over Ł11k all in, drive in drive out .

The only issue in my opinion is the fact that I don't like the variable torque split (and the extra weight this all adds - this transmission set-up will add around 40-50kg in total to the car , so losing all the pumps etc would be a huge benfit IMO from a weight reduction and setting up the handling point of view). I've been on at Martin for ages to fit the Cossie transfer box into the Skyline casing (plenty of room), but he's not got the time or inclination .

On the transmission tunnel in the offside rear passenger footwell, a panel needs a bulge putting in place, plus all the bits you can see under Martin's car .

Paul,
as the lads have said very good box but must be used proper....Tony has broken 2 but he'd break a crowbar in a bog
e.g missing gears will empty your bank account...in fact the only way Tony finds any gears is because their in a box..lol

You fucking mental Paul! OCD OVERKILL!

IF you blow your DPE box, I'd just get a Bara box off Martoon for a fraction of the price!

(Ps wait untill I grass you up to Sadie!).

6th gear in the r+d will be 1-1 anyway so that would be like your 4th gear in your box

you dont want a dog box for the road the novelty will so ware off

get a good syncro box you box should be ok ?

The rally one's also normally come with an ultra tall 2.6 1st but mine was 2.99 ... The ratio's in my old box were spot on for road or track use.

The OS Giken comes with either .85 or .78 6th gear... I'm just about to try the taller 6th

I dont find my R&D too bad to use on the road, but do find it easyer when driving hard. As Martin said above the taller 6th is nice for on the road my car cruises at 80 at around 3k rpm.
