Default calibrating an EGT sensor?

i wanted to go closed loop on my escort which runs on emerald, so i had a chat with dave walker to see what sensor to use, they gave me a paart number of one to get from vag parts for one used on a audi/golf 1.8t s3/4 rs4 etc but once bought it and asked them for the diagram they said they cant seem to get the new ones to work as they cant crack how to calibrate them using the emerald . anyone know how to program a new one on a vw if need be? cheers

I assume you mean lambda sensor and not egt? is it wide band or narrow?

Im a little confused as to why you need an EGT sensor to go closed loop?

From Emerald site http://www.emeraldm3d.com/em_k3.html

EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE
Closed loop on EGT for boost and fuelling
Exhaust gas temperature is a critical measurement for high performance engines. The new K3 software allows you to read-in exhaust gas temperature from a suitable thermocouple via the CAN bus. You can then set port temperature limits in the software to reduce turbo boost and/or add fuelling to safeguard the engine. You also get the EGT reading on the live mapping screen allowing you to monitor the engine during mapping. The system already contains the calibration for the Audi/VW EGT sensor making the new K3 a must for anyone using the VW Audi 1.8 Turbo engine as a transplant.

Best you understand soon

cheers mate, just dropped him a pm, really eager to know how this is calibrated, they said they might buy a 1.8t to try and calibrate it on as he cant crack it on emerald as theres something the vw/audi must have to make it activate?

ah I was thinking closed loop in terms of AFR but this is closed loop in terms of EGT not AFR as the ecu still needs a lambda sensor to do closed loop afr control. Its saying that you set max limits for temperature and it uses the sensor to monitor the temp and reduce it by playing with the boost or fueling when it reaches its limits.

he said they can get it working and recommended the sensor to get and to get it from vag parts, once i got it they said they ain sussed out how to get a "new" one to work but 2nd hand are fine? so im wondering how i get it calibrated?

if they havent sussed out how to get it working yet and can't tell you an exact tried and tested part, are you happy to run it in your engine?

what if there's a minor bug in the software you're beta testing for them and it ends up melting the engine?

surprised they'd let anything out the door that isnt 100% to be honest, they wouldnt let me test their new software when i was GAGGING for it

they're finding a problem with the new ones as they cant get the ecu to recognise them, so they're thinking of buying a golf to try calibrating them with the cars ecu?

presumably they need the ECU to be able to read the CAN message from the control box? if so, that's not calibration.

and thats the thing the vag g235 its 12v fed grounded and the sense wire goes to pin 13 which is a pull up resistor (digital input) on the main ecu plug ,, Well it can go through the can bus if your running a rover imobolizer but its still done through the drop down menus so there is no calibrating to actually get to it work so if you have a new generation sensor then no it wont work you need the g235 from the 2002 audi tt / rs4rs6
then its a piece of piss to setup well so ur lead to believe but remember always update every change you make to the ecu and then reset the ecu so it see's the new hardware

conecting using pin 13 as sense

pin4

can bus

then just map the heat vs pressure side , upload reset the ecu job done

jay just tried phoning you but got no answer mate, cheers
