You need em when the turbo you use hasnt got an internal one, simple as, not really related to power, some pretty tiny turbos also use them.

Plenty of Cossies on here use em, has done for years.

are they a hassle to fit? cutting, welding etc? so if you've bought a turbo with out an internal wastegate is it best to get an external one?

Modded manifold, and either modded downpipe or just screamer pipe.

If a turbo doesnt have an internal one you got no choice but run an external.

i bought a turbo from america once and that had no external wastegate, it came with a bolt on wastegate ( v-band ) i think it was called, that was cheap shite though.
