The fact that is a BS fine and not alot of motorist are aware of it and even a copper i spoke to was unaware so how was i to know? I think a warning should had been given and not just another fine on a legit motorist over a trivial offence.

so your defence is you didnt know the law and lots of other people are doing it? theres no grey area thats still guilty as charged as far as i can see and im sure thats how the judge will see it as well. in my experience challenging a law however shit it is doesnt go down well with judges and they end up fining you more than the original amount to teach you a lesson.
good luck with it though.

They are as legal as silver/black plates......

Only applicable to cars of a certain age.

I am not saying i am not guilty, But tell me how i can prevent something i am unaware of?? There for a warning would have been issued as it not like it was a blatant disregard of the law, Or even a serious offence.

there is no deviation allowed from standard size and font, standard spacing and reflective white or yellow . it comes down purely to whether or not a copper wants to bother about it or not at the time.

not knowing is no defence . as the owner of the car its your responsability to comply with all the laws. no one elses.
i know its a load of shite but thats how it is. you could possibly argue that it had passed an mot with the plates if it actually did?

Its now ILLEGAL to manufacture plates that arent BS marked by teh way, so all these problems will become a thing of teh past soon. maybe you could use that angle to prove to teh judge its a big problem with teh public not understanding,. hence thay have targetted the plate manufacturers instead.

Is that true? Not because of reflectivity? If so, simply state they were manufactured prior to the law coming into effect. Job done. I was fooked when it happened to me as i had a private plate on a car i had just bought...

What do you think my chances of not paying the fine are.
you previously stated it was for 2 problems of the bs number and the pressed steel?

I am a legal number plate supplier and the BSAU145d and supplier postcode only has to be applied to number plates SUPPLIED after the 1st September 2001. How old is your car? Can it be proved that YOU had them made and fitted them?

Interesting info here:

Well you CANNOT be prosecuted for non fitment of BSAU standard plates then pal. I fail to see why you are worrying.

It's scandalous the pettiness of some cops etc

Whilst you are in court, having your time wasted, the courts time wasted, and the police having wasted even more time and money bringing the prosecution.....

I wonder how much real crime is actually taking place.

the thing is , its quite possible if you argue the case and provide written stuff as evidence they could adjorn it and call you back to court again once theyve had time to do enquiries for themselves meaning more wasted time and lost wages. sometimes its better, quicker and cheaper just to admit the original charge whilst acting all humble in front of the judge. shite but true.

Thats a bit petty for sure. You didnt fail the attitude test when they pulled you over did you by any chance? No offence, but it seems very much like you may have?
