I saw an old guy driving a 2 door Volvo 340 today and tbh i thought it looked pretty cool.
BUT
They are also awesome for a bit of learner drifting.....![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Think i am going to look for one as a runabout

You've got to buy that.....even if its just to leave the old owners driveway COMPLETELY broadside.....donut it a few times at the bottom of the road then leave a nice set of black lines as you exit his road!!!! ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)

I've got a 340 1.4 as the "daily drifter" whilst the S40 is off the road (hopefully back tomorrow!) and its an awesome little car. Even with an open diff and shockingly low power in the wet it drifts like a dream - very easy to control.
When the S40 is back and running reliably I'll think about dropping an F7P engine in and welding up that diff.
That 340 you've linked to is far too nice to drift! check out volvo300mania for a bargain. they often come up "free to a good home". Mine set me back a massive Ł120 without a spot of rust on it with about a months tax and test left - passed the MOT without needing any work. Best part was that i insured it fully comp without using my NCB for Ł220 (I was 22 at the time).
I get a load of stick from my mates because they all think its a pile of crap and looks dog ugly (they're partly right I guess!) but I've got a bit of a soft spot for them especially if they look a little something like -

Renault f7p 1.8 16v engine with R1 bike carbs. I think it sold for a grand![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Your too late.
A mate gave his away for 100 quid!! Tax and tested. No-one wanted the old burgundy bus.![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
They do drift well though, part of having the gearbox at the rear... great weight distribution.
My mates 1.7 went really well given the weight of the thing. Laguna 2.0 drops straight in if you fancy it.
You'll need to change the driver seat though... standard they're like a sofa with the springs removed.

And you're right about the weight distribution, the gearbox is at the back and balances the car out

They weigh NOTHING, under 1000kg, lightest RWD normal car there is.
The black one above was my mate Griffos, two other firends of mine have had them with 16V renault lumps in em too.
I've had two, but 360s, WAY better than 340s in my opinion as its the same car just with a decent engine, ie a 2 litre volvo engine rather than some shitbox renault lump.
And then engine transplants are for DECENT engines, ie Turbo Volvo ones go straight in instead of shite Renault ones.
Ive had 2x 360s, weld the diff, put a drivers bucket seat in, and remove the spring from the handbrake, and you got a fun little car to learn to drive properly in.
And decent engines just bolt straight to the standard engine mounts and transmission.
A guy who lives near me has a 2litre turbo in his, bolts straight in, or if you spend a bit more money and can find the 16V head lying round anywhere (we picked one up at the local scrappy last week for 50quid, but they are rare), you can do this...
Engine:
2.3 16v Turbo
T35, custom manifold
solid lifters
Forged pistons, 13mm rods
660cc injectors, adj. pressure reg, motorsport pump
3" turbo back, Blitz Nur spec box
Omex management
17psi, +300BHP
Suspension:
Bilstein coilovers (F)
Avo coilovers (R)
Whiteline ARB
Polybushes
Brakes:
285mm, Wilwood dynalite (F)
Escort discs, sierra calipers
Pedal box and bias
Driftworks hyd.handbrake
Compomotive 8x15 wheels, toyo 215/45 15

That same engine can do 600+ if you mental...

Renault lumps are ideal for n/a applications and are far from shite if you know what you doing with them

Practical performance had a feature on one of these last month with the 5 pot turbo lump dropped in, calling it the 'credit crunch escort mkII' - not far wrong
