would you buy smg m3 without warrenty???
i test drove an e46 m3 smg the other day at sytner and it was nowhere near like the horror stories i have heard from people about the jerky'ness of gearchanges etc and i liked the fact that if you hit traffic or feel lazy you can just put it in full auto mode and take it easy lol,
now i have had to face the fact i can not ever buy from a dealer as they are just out of my price range and i will lose any equity i put down etc etc so its a waste of money, Im now looking at second hand cars/private sales but obviously they wont have warrenty on the car so would this put you off? i need owners experiances and seeing how 90% of people on here own bmw's i thought id ask lol
are they really that expensive to repair? i would just use a specialist not a main bmw dealer.
regards
marc

its the E36 SMG gearboxes that were wank. the E46 have SMGII which is very good
tbh most of the warranties offered arent worth a shit anyway

i bought a focus rs from these tossers in birmingham called AMG performance they gave me 6 months warranty through warranty wise
1 month later the turbocharger fucked up i called warranty wise they came to the garage seen a superchips boost gauge on the dash and said nah nah its modified it must be chipped so i called amg who gave me the 6 months warranty which covers a standard car and tried to get the money out of them as they failed to inform me that the warranty was infact basically invalid for the whole car anyway thats my rant over AMG performance from birmingham are wank stains dont deal with them

warrenty aint worth the paper its written on!3 program launches and thats the end of your warrenty plus the ecu has full data logging so they know exactly what you were at when it let go...oh and you cant go the cheaper route like second hand box as the box must be programmed to the ecu

Just to clear it up as i didnt say before it is the SMGII box thats in the car, my thoughts exactly on the warrenty side of it as they know if your canning the cnut out of it and launching it etc so will void that part anyway so its not really any different i spose to not having it,
and this car isnt really for track or anything

done the hpi, and its all clear.
going to check the service history tommorow with a friend that works at fairfield to see if its full main dealer like he says and had the running in service on time like he said, i wouldnt buy 1 without that ever.
if its an 02 plate its 99.9% likely to be the SMGI gearbox as the SMGII was only an option at that time

All E46's were SMG11 Mark, SMG1's were the E36's. I had an E36 one and it was wanky wank!!!! I had me mates dad black E46 SMG11 vert for the weekend not long ago and wasn't bad as it happens, although I would still opt for a manual. If your doubtful about buying it and worried on possible repair costs, so will the next person that comes to buy it from you when you move on, but they will be more sceptical with it being older etc etc... manual all the way dude!! Buyers market at the mo so you'll get what your looking for!

Mark, you can get an AA gold warranty for around £300 that will cover pretty much all you need. Ive got one on the RS4 and it cost about £320 I think and that includes the turbochargers too.

you not found one yet marc?
im going to search as soon as i get back from hoilday, there's hundreds out there and dropping in price daily its great for the buyer.
The performance car market has fallen on its arse big time due to the so called credit crunch (that personally i dont think affects 90% of us, just has a knock on affect)
And 99% of it is just scare moungering, going on people say so, if a few high up people said the housing market was on the rise people would start buying again regardless of what the actuall market is doing.
People are just too heavily influenced by what certain people say, then everyone else has sheep syndrome and follows the crowd.

Ryan, have you been on holiday to another planet AND smoking crack?
Mark my words....Its happening and the worst is yet to come. It doesnt seem to be effecting lots of people as they are too happy to continue doing what is moving us there in the first place......spending money they dont have on credit.
Thats said, if you do have cash then buying in the performance car market is a nice place to be at the moment.

i know that mate, but is the credit crunch really affecting people? Or is it just slowed everything down as everying is just sitting on the hands and waiting to see what happens, which on its own is having a detrimental affect to the ecomony.
I know it will fuck the people that owe loads on credit, but personally thats the own fault anyway IMO.
I guess for me the credit crunch is a benifical thing, as every goes down except cold hard cash.

The recent energy price increases will make times even harder for people and everyone is affected by that. You cant say things are not affecting you at all, I mean look at the price of fuel and energy. House prices taking a dip for the first time in a long while, interest rates up over the last year etc etc.
Cold hard cash is king mate and it will be harder to get your hands on.
I will drag this post up again in the future when you PM me to find out which Tesco has the best Value range!!!!!
That aside, get your cash out and go buy yourself a new car!!!!

i know it has you lee.
but carlo, is that purely from people sitting on the fence and not wanting to buy any thing till they see what the ecomony is going to do?
as i can imagine your average BMW client isnt going to buy a new BM on finance? or are they?
i can imagine it affect the lower end makes as they are prodominantly aimed at the market that is more likely to be affected by the crunch.

People are not just sitting on the cash, they are having to spend what would normally be disposable income on higher priced fixed outgoings like fuel, gas, electricity and huge mortgage increases.
People will HAVE to trade out of luxury kinda products like BMW into something cheaper so the cheaper value brands will do better. Also think you would be surprised at just how much stuff like new Beemers ARE bought on credit! (edit: See above!!!)

My mates Aston Martin Vantage has lost him circa £15k in 9 months (apparantly this car is losing £2k a month at the moment!!!). The economy is slowly going on it's arse and anyone who thinks it is all hype is deluded. We have not even seen the worst imo. The credit crunch is only part of this problem and is not the bit that concerns me (as it does not directly affect me)...... the overall downturn of the economy is what concerns me.
I have a business interest in the entertainment industry. People are not spending money and figures are down by nearly 50% on last year. If the kids are not spending on the weekend piss-up you know something is REALLY bad.
My partner works in the female retail sector and as expected their turnover is well down against last year. Of course if people are not going out as much, than they do not need to buy as many clothes. Again, this is the younger demographic.
It don't look good and anyone shelling cash in to a motor vehicle at this point in time (high performance) needs to expect to be spanked over the coming years on resale value. Especially since the market is still in downturn and has not bottomed out yet.
I was going to shift the scoob early this year and have been to'ing and fro'ing on getting something from an EVO to a Porsche 911 Turbo. Whereas the EVO would be less of a risk, buying a Porsche would of cost me thousands (I am being offered similar spec Porsches now at circa £10k less than priced 6 months ago!). I still want to change now, but I am not tossing hard cash down the shitter so it looks like the Scoob will be staying.

maybe i need to poke my head out of my bubble once in while then.
I wont be rushing into purchasing a car, and may put the money into more bricks and motor and just buy a run of the mill car.
